Defunc True Mute ANC earphones review – impressive quality and control
- VERDICT
The Defunc True Mute wire-free earphones offer quality at an affordable price with active noise cancellation and touch controls for easy navigation and control.
The Defunc True Mute offers quality and value for those looking for a pair of active noise cancelling wireless earphones at a much more affordable price.
Priced at $269.95, the Defunc True Mute wireless earphones sit in the mid-tier and offer a range of features.
The main one being active noise cancellation which uses the onboard microphones to listen out for ambient noise and produce an opposite signal to cancel them out.
This allows users to hear their music and content without distraction.
On the design side, the Defunc True Mute wireless earphones have a bud and stalk with the silicon tip angled to fit comfortably in your ear and create a seal that provides passive noise cancellation
The stalks rest outside of your ears and extend for almost 2cm.
They are light and quite comfortable to wear for extended periods.
The earbuds have an IPX4 rating so they are water and sweat resistant.
Sound-wise, the Defunc True Mute offers a pleasing audio quality that’s impressive for the price.
It has decent clarity, not in the same class as more expensive brands – but that’s why they are more expensive. But the sound more than holds its own.
Bass response is also reasonable without being overpowering.
All up – it’s a nice audio soundscape that gives great results whether you’re listening to rock, pop, classical music, hip hop, electronic music or spoken word content like a podcast or an audiobook.
There are numerous touch controls functions that do everything from adjusting volume and navigating your music.
It took us a few attempts to get the hang of the controls, where we needed to press and for how long. There is actually a small nodule on the outside of the earbud and this marked the spot
We could also switch between the sounds modes by pressing the right earpiece for three seconds to toggle from ANC to Transparency mode which uses the onboard microphones to let you hear your surroundings to normal mode.
Just on the active noise cancellation – the Defunc True Mute is not the best we’ve heard but by no means the worst.
It did a good job in helping fade out the outside world so we can truly hear our music.
Battery life of the earphones is about three hours – and that’s with ANC on. You get up to five hours in normal mode.
The case also provides up to five recharges as well.
Speaking of the case, it’s quite small – about the same size as an AirPods case – so it’s easy to fit in your pocket.
The case and headphones can be fully charged in one hour. There are four LEDs on the case so you can see the power level at a glance.
The Defunc True Mute earphones are available now and are priced at $269.95.
