Netgear Genie lets you monitor and control your network
Netgear has released a new app for computers, smartphones and tablets which allow users to easily monitor, maintain and repair your home network.
Netgear Genie is free and can be downloaded for the PC and Mac as well as for the iPhone, iPad and Android smartphone and tablets.
Once the app is connected to your network users can check the state of the wireless networks and even allow guests access to your home wi-fi.
Netgear Genie also provides an easier way to access and customise your router and its settings.
Users can change their network name or the router’s password and even easily update the router’s firmware with a single click if an update is available.
The app lets users take a look at their network map and see which devices are connected to their home network.
And if you run into a problem with your network, Netgear Genie can easily help you diagnose, pinpoint and fix the problem with step-by-step instructions.
If you have the Netgear Genie app installed on your smartphone or tablet all of these controls are now in the palm of your hand.
Another benefit of the Netgear Genie app is the ability to print from your iPhone or iPad.
Now rather than buying an AirPrint compatible printer, Netgear Genie can now create a bridge across your network so your can print files from the iPhone and iPad like any other computer on the network.
The Netgear Genie app has to be running on your computer to allow iPhone and iPad printing.
The app also lets users control their media on their home network.
Genie can be used as a remote to control playback of your digital content on the DLNA (digital living network alliance) compatible devices that are on your network including smart TVs and computers.
Users can choose the content they want to view and also choose the connected device they want to watch it on.
And you can stream and watch that content on your network on the smartphone or tablet you happen to be using.
It’s also possible to play the media contained on your smartphone or tablet on other DLNA devices wirelessly through Netgear Genie.
If you have a compatible Netgear router, Netgear Genie also allows advanced features like parental controls so you can easily determine just what your children are allowed to see when they surf the web.
