Foxtel customers can now watch their favourite channels anywhere with the release of the new Foxtel Go iPad app which streams over 3G/4G and wi-fi.
Existing residential Foxtel cable and satellite customers can now extend their enjoyment of the pay TV service wherever they are with their iPad.
Foxtel Go offers 21 live channels and catch up titles so you’ll never miss your favourite programs.
The 21 live channels include the LifeStyle Channel, A&E, Sky News, National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel, Disney, Cartoon Network, Channel [V] and Cbeebies.
There are also dedicated sports channels like Sports Play Powered by Fox Sports which provides live highlights for Rugby Union, Cricket, A-League and Tennis) along with FOX SPORTS PLUS 1, 2 3 and 4 (which are four Barclays Premier League specially programmed football channels) and Eurosport.
Catch up shows will include ROVE LA (FOX8), The Walking Dead (FX), Magic City (SoHo), Project Runway Australia (Arena), Gossip Girl (FOX8), Vampire Diaries (FOX8), Deadliest Catch (Discovery Channel), Married to Jonas (E!) and many more.
Foxtel Go also includes the Remote Record capability so users can record the program on their iQ set top box at home.
“The TV landscape has changed, viewers are not just watching TV in the living room they’re watching TV on the way to work, at the beach or in another room of the house,” Richard Freudenstein, Foxtel CEO said.
“Foxtel Go is the biggest thing we’ve launched since digital and iQ, it lets customers take their entertainment with them on the go.”
The free Foxtel Go app has a simple and easy-to-navigate interface with menus for live TV and catch-up.
The Live TV section has a viewing window on the left side of the screen and the list of available channels on the right. Users can also choose to view the program full screen and also use AirPlay with their Apple TV to stream the content to their TV.
In the Catch Up section it divides the selections into Featured, Genres, Channels and an alphabetical list along with scrollable horizontal menus for Most Popular, Express from US, Latest in News, Real and Extreme and Kids Corner.
Content can be streamed over wi-fi and across the 3G/4G networks. If streaming on cellular networks, users should be aware the service would use some of their monthly data allowance.
Customers are advised to monitor their data usage to prevent extra charges if they exceed their data limit.
Foxtel Go is a free app and available to download for iPad now. Foxtel has not mentioned if it will be developing an Android version of the Foxtel Go app.
The Foxtel Go app is available for residential subscribers but will not be available for customers with Optus TV featuring Foxtel, Foxtel on Xbox 360, Foxtel on Internet TV or Foxtel T-Box customers.
The service can also only be used within Australia.
