We round up the rumours ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S21 release in January

Rumours and leaked images are swirling ahead of the imminent release of the new  Samsung flagship Galaxy S21 smartphone in January.

Samsung released the Galaxy S20 back in February 2020 before the world went into the COVID lockdown and the strongest rumours point to a virtual launch event on January 14, 2021 with a likely on-sale date of late January or early February.

There are two new devices that are likely to be unveiled – the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21+.

Samsung may also release a S21 Ultra alongside these two models or later in the year.

On the design side, the S21 (according to the many leaked images online) with have a new-look triple camera module on the rear panel that will merge with the top left edge of the device.

There are also reports the back panel of the S21 will be made from plastic instead of glass which may result in greater durability and possibly a lower price.

The screen sizes are said to 6.2-inch for the S21 and 6.7-inch for the S21+ with full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rates to make videos and games look even smoother.

The S21 Ultra is rumoured to have a 6.9-inch display.

And from the reportedly leaked images, the display will be flat for the S21 and S21+ and with curved edges on the S21 Ultra – this was the same differentiation with the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.

Both devices are also expected to be 5G with storage options up to 256GB and with expandable memory card slots.

There will also be a minimum of 8GB RAM onboard.

The S21 and S21+ will both have triple camera systems that will include a 12-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor with up to 30x digital zoom.

They are also said to be able to record 4K at up to 60 frames per second.

Battery-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S21 will reportedly have a 4,000mAh battery while the larger S21+ will include a 4,800mAh battery.

The Samsung S21 launch event is expected on January 14.
