Vodafone dramatically increases its regional network coverage across Australia

Vodafone has completed a huge regional network expansion that will effectively double its mobile coverage across Australia.

Vodafone’s coverage has gone from 400,000 square kilometres to more than 1,000,000 square kilometres and can now connect more customers in popular holiday destinations and other regional areas.

This means Vodafone’s coverage is now within reach of 98.4 per cent of Australians.

“We have doubled the coverage of our mobile network so people right across Australia – from Cronulla to Cunnamulla – can get access to the award-winning value, innovation and service that Vodafone customers in the city enjoy every day,” said Kieren Cooney, Vodafone Group Executive, Consumer, Data and Analytics.

“With Vodafone expanding across Australia, the days of having limited mobile choice in regional Australia are over.

“We believe this is the biggest boost to mobile competition in 30 years and

will make a huge difference to how Vodafone customers connect, work, travel and play right across the country.”

The expansion is the result of an alliance between Vodafone’s parent company TPG Telecom and Optus.

The Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) agreement will increase the number of towers sites for Vodafone across Australia while Optus gains access to TPG’s mobile spectrum which will improve the Optus 5G network in terms of speeds and reliability across Australia.

For Vodafone the improvements in coverage are significant.

Queensland coverage on the Vodafone network will increase by more than four times while South Australian coverage will triple.

“Up and down the North and South Coasts of New South Wales, to Bundaberg in Queensland, Busselton in Western Australia, and thousands of other towns and suburbs stretched across this land – we are supercharging our network so Australians can get better coverage where they need it,” Cooney added.

To celebrate the launch of Vodafone’s new expanded network it is offering discounts and doubling data on some of its most popular plans.
