Optus launches $35 My Plan for light users to avoid bill shock

optusmyplanOptus has launched a brand new plan aimed at light users but with a built-in safety net to protect customers from bill shock if they exceed their allowances.

Available from today, the $35 My Plan offers 200 minutes of calls, unlimited SMS and MMS along with 200MB of data.

And if users exceed these inclusions they will be automatically moved to the next level instead of getting a massive bill for excess use.

The added costs will be $5 that will add 300MB of data and an added $10 for another 250 minutes of calls.

And that’s if they are needed. Then, at the end of the month, the user is back to the $35 plan with its original inclusions.

“Some Australians live in fear of using their phone because of high bills and we recognise this needs to stop,” says Optus CEO, Consumer Australia, Kevin Russell.

“The Optus My Plan range is a radically new way of charging that moves to eradicate bill shock – there are no tricks in these plans.

“That’s why we’ve introduced the Optus $35 My Plan so customers know exactly what they are getting while having the freedom and flexibility to do more and when they need to.”

According to Optus’s own research more than half of entry-level customers are three times more likely to exceed their plan’s limits than customers on higher plans and are hit by $100 in excess charges over 12 months.
