We are in the final weeks of 2024 and Google has released its most popular searches which reveal the moments, people, trends and questions that grabbed our interest throughout the year.
In 2024 we celebrated Australia’s Olympic successes, failures and other stand out moments, we witnessed the tragic events at Bondi Westfield and followed the US election closely.
It was a year when Australian break dancer Raygun captured the world’s attention while we played Connections and turned to Google to help us find recipes, fix our cars and complete DIY projects.
Google’s year in search is an interesting snapshot of what Australians were passionate about.
It was a year when we were engrossed in US politics and saw Joe Biden bow out of the race to hand over the reins to Kamala Harris who would go on to be defeated comeback king Donald Trump.
And it’s no surprise Australians love their sport and our searches reflected that fact as we tried to keep up with the Olympics medal tally and other sporting events around the world including the Euros, Copa America and the T20 World Cup.
Google has also become our best resource for recipes and we searched for everything from Jamie Oliver’s air fryer to cucumber salad, Olympics chocolate muffins and bitter melon.
We also tried to expand our vocabulary via Google with demure the top trending definition search.
If you have a question Google has proven to be one of the best places to ask it and this year was no different with queries around how to watch the Olympics, the Logan Paul and Mike Tyson fight and even how to talk to women.
