Boost Mobile has become the latest MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) to offer eSIM activation. The company’s boss Peter Adderton is calling it “a big telcos’s worst fear” because it is now even easier for customers to switch.
The brand, which uses the Telstra network with its competitive plans, has unveiled its first eSIM offering along with a refreshed app.
The embedded SIM (eSIM) is available on most recent phones with 40 per cent of users unaware their device even had an eSIM that could be activated.
To activate an eSIM with a Boost Mobile plan takes a few taps on the Boost Mobile app.
“As an industry we have traditionally made it way too hard for people to port in and out, says Boost Mobile founder Peter Adderton
“This is because having the ability to move in seconds, across multiple carriers and networks, is actually big telco’s worst fear
“Putting up barriers between switching telco serves the company, not the consumer.
“eSIM changes the relationship consumers have with their telcos.”
Adderton says Boost Mobile is all about choice and offering great deals.
“We are putting the power back in the hands of consumers.
“We believe there are many Australians sitting on the fence, wanting to change telcos but are worried about how to do it, or concerned about losing their number.
“With eSIM there’s no need to put up with a below standard experience when the technology and innovation is there to easily move across to a telco that will work hard for you.
“Make us work for your business.”
The new Boost Mobile app makes it even easier for customers to keep an eye on their account and check data usage and compare month usage and manage your services.
Today 46 per cent of smartphone users have a smartphone with an eSIM according to research firm Telsyte.
But only 12 per cent of these are currently using eSIM but it has grown by 6 per cent in the last 12 months.
