The new DJI Flip has a foldable design and can take off from the palm of your hand

DJI has unveiled its latest drone – the DJI Flip – an all-in-one vlog camera drone that weighs less than 249g and that features an all-new foldable design.

The DJI Flip can capture 48MP images and shoot 4K videos via the onboard 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor.

The new drone has fully foldable propeller guards making it easy to carry it with you anywhere and easy to fly so it should appeal to beginners.

“Building on the success of our consumer camera drones, we are introducing DJI Flip to combine the simplicity of the DJI Neo with the stunning photo capabilities of the DJI Mini to make both aerial photography and close-up portraits accessible for everyone,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Product Experience Director at DJI.

“DJI Flip combines creative tools like AI subject tracking and intelligent shooting modes with safety features like our latest foldable propeller guards and automatic braking, making it easier than ever for people to capture stunning aerial footage no matter their level of photography or drone expertise.”

The DJI Flip was designed to be safe and easy to fly thanks to the full coverage propeller guards that can help users, especially beginner pilots, avoid injury or damage to the drone.

The guards are made of lightweight carbon fibre string which offers impressive strength yet is only 1/60th the weight of guards made with traditional polycarbonate material.

And be under 249g, DJI Flip can be flown in most countries around the world and without any training.

The drone can actually take off and land in the palm of your hand.

It’s also possible to select from six intelligent shooting modes with one tap of the mode button on the drone including dronie, circle, rocket, spotlight, helix and boomerang

The DJI Flip has AI subject tracking which means it can keep a moving subject in the middle of the frame as well.
In fact, the DJI Flip can be flown with or without a remote control.

This approachable design is sure to make the DJI Flip popular with new pilots.

On the photography side, the DJI Flip can also produce some stunning images and videos.

The onboard sensor has dual native ISO Fusion and f/1.7 aperture.

You can also achieve up to 4x zoom for your photos while still maintaining the quality and detail thanks to the next-gen Smart Photo feature which puts together HDR imaging and scene recognition to optimise your images.

The drone can also record 4K HDR video at 60 frames per second and can also support slow motion recording at 4K/100fps and 10-bit D-Log M colour mode.

Also on board is a 4:3 aspect ratio CMOS sensor which is ideal for portrait shots that will still maintain the 2.7K resolution to make them suitable to share on social media and view on your smartphone without any cropping required.

Tech Guide took an early look at the DJI Flip and found it one of the easiest drones to set up and fly.

The foldable design means it is quite compact and easy to take with you anywhere, including on your travels.

But we did have issue with flying the DJI Flip in high winds.

A combination of its lightweight and small mass and the large propellor guards made it tough to fly in windy conditions.

The propeller guards, if caught at the right angle by the wind, were like sails and either stayed in the same spot despite us guiding it forward or it sent the drone backwards.

We recommend for beginners to fly DJI Flip in calm conditions where they can maintain full control.

Apart from that, the DJI Flip was a delight to fly and produced some stunning images and videos.

It’s ease of use is a real standout feature with the ability to choose from the most popular flying modes right there on the device instead of having to find it with the remote control.

But if you prefer holding a controller and you are a more experienced pilot, the experience is just as thrilling and rewarding.

The DJI Flip intelligent battery offers up to 31 minutes of flight time.

It also has a 3D-infrared sensing system so it will put on the brakes before hitting any kind of obstacle or object in its path.

Here are DJI’s intelligent shooting features easily produce professional-grade work:

– MasterShots: Allows DJI Flip to automatically perform diverse camera movements, shooting multiple clips and editing them with music, cuts, and effects for fast and simplified cinematic footage.

– Hyperlapse: Select from four options, including Free, Circle, Course Lock, and Waypoint to capture timelapse footage at up to 4K horizontally or 2.7K vertically.

– FocusTrack: Find creative ways to follow your subject with FocusTrack. The suite includes ActiveTrack 4.0, Spotlight 2.0, and Point of Interest 3.0, three powerful storytelling tools.

– Panorama: Supports shooting 180°, Wide Angle, Vertical, and Sphere panoramic photos to capture magnificent landscapes.

Other Features

– 31-minute Max Flight Time1: DJI Flip’s Intelligent Flight Battery delivers up to 31 minutes of flight time, ensuring seamless creation without battery concerns.

– Automatic Braking1: DJI Flip’s 3D Infrared Sensing System supports automatic braking for enhanced safety, even at night.

– Next Level Video Transmission: When paired with the DJI RC-N3 or RC 2 remote controller, DJI O4 video transmission supports up to 13 km1 of 1080p/60fps video transmission and has excellent anti-interference capabilities, allowing you to explore vast landscapes with clarity.

– Fast Charging and Data Transfers1: The DJI Flip Parallel Charging Hub charges two batteries simultaneously1, significantly reducing charging time. With the DJI Fly app, footage can be transferred at speeds up to 30MB/s.

– Fly With or Without Remote Controller: The DJI Flip can be operated with the DJI RC-N3 or RC 2 remote controllers. It can also operate with the DJI Fly app or Voice Control1 for hands-free flying. When connected to your phone, it can capture audio and intelligently reduce noise, automatically filtering out propeller noise.
