Canon reveals new 2012 range of digital cameras

Canon has rolled out its latest range of compact digital cameras which include GPS technology, wi-fi, touchscreen control and full HD video recording.

There are new models in the popular IXUS and PowerShot ranges along with an all-new rugged waterproof model.

The demand for high quality compact cameras is high considering how well the latest smartphones can capture our day-to-day images.

Canon says its new range can meet these consumer demands with improved lenses and optical zoom capabilities and higher sensitivity CMOS sensors for high quality picture in any lighting scenario.

There are two new IXUS models in 2012 – the 510HS (10.1 megapixel) and the 240HS (16.1 megapixel). Both have slimline bodies which mean they can easily slip into a pocket or bag.

Across these two models the new features include wi-fi connectivity, Digic 5 Image Processor, Intelligent IS (image stability) and Face ID and full high definition video capture.

The wi-fi feature makes it possible for users to share their images to email or social networking sites through wi-fi-enabled wi-fi devices including smartphones and tablets including the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

The Digic 5 Image Processor interprets the light that comes through the IXUS lenses into natural, lifelike images with accurate colour, reduced blur, improved white balance and batter noise reduction.

Intelligent IS works to reduce image blur even further while Face ID can remember up to 12 people on the camera and adjust the settings and focus accordingly.

The IXUS 510HS and the IXUS 240HS will be available in April.

The new PowerShot series includes the SX260 HS (12.1 megapixel), A4000 IS, A2400 IS and the A2300 (all 16 megapixel).

The new features on these high performance compact digital cameras include 20x optical zoom, 25mm wide-angle lens, high sensitivity CMOS sensor, Intelligent Auto Mode and GPS technology.

GPS will be included with the PowerShot SX260 HS and logs the current shooting location and allows photographers to display image location information with Google Maps.

PowerShot D20

Adventurers can take the PowerShot D20 anywhere they go whether it’s underwater or in the snow and it will be able to handle all the bumps and scrapes along the way.

The 12.1 megapixel PowerShot D20 also has integrated GPS to allow users to track and log their travels on Google Maps and ensure memorable shooting locations are never forgotten.

Of course, the PowerShot D20 is waterproof to a depth of 10m while separate underwater case can also be fitted to the device to make it waterproof to a further 40m.
