Spotify has just released its list of the most popular artists and tracks with UK songwriter Ed Sheeran crowned as the most streamed musician in 2014.
In the last year Spotify, the popular music streaming service, saw more than 50 million Spotify users listen to more than seven billion hours of music.
Ed Sheeran led the way with the artist listened to more than 860 million times around the world on Spotify.
Sheeran’s X album, despite being released halfway through the year in June, was also the most streamed album of the year with 430 million streams.
Katy Perry was the top female artist and took the crown from last year’s queen Rihanna thanks to hits like Dark Horse and Roar.
Pharrell Williams scored the biggest hit of the year with the pop anthem Happy which was the most streamed track of the year with more than 260 million plays.
Chet Faker was the most streamed Australian artist and edged out internationally recognised Aussie talents Iggy Azalea and Sia along with his good friend Flume.
Vance Joy’s Riptide was the most streamed Australian song with Iggy Azalea’s album The New Classic the most streamed Australian album.
