Samsung launches new Galaxy S25 range with deeper, more personal AI integration

Samsung has unveiled its latest lineup of flagship smartphones – the Galaxy S25 Series – which introduces a new level of AI that will turn the device into a personal assistant and companion.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Series includes the S25 (6.2-inch display), the S25+ (6.7 inch display) and the S25 Ultra (6.9-inch display).

They will go on sale in Australia on February 14, 2025, with pre-orders starting from today.

Samsung says the Galaxy S25 represents the first step towards changing the way users interact with their phone and the world around them.

The devices are powered by a customised Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy chipset which offers powerful on-device processing for Galaxy AI as well as improved camera range and control with the Galaxy next-gen ProVisual Engine.

This is the most powerful processor ever seen on a Galaxy S device and delivers a performance boost of 40 per cent in NPU, 37 per cent in CPU and 30 per cent in GPU compared to the previous generation.

“The greatest innovations are a reflection of their users, which is why we evolved Galaxy AI to help everyone interact with their devices more naturally and effortlessly while trusting that their privacy is secured,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Galaxy S25 series opens the door to an AI-integrated OS that fundamentally shifts how we use technology and how we live our lives.”

TECH GUIDE TAKES A HANDS-ON LOOK AT THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S25 ULTRA

Design-wise, the Galaxy S25 series is the slimmest and lightest yet.

While the S25 and S25+ don’t look too much different, the S25 Ultra has more rounded corners and flatter edges.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is made from titanium and Corning Gorilla Armour 2 glass to make it even tougher.

The Galaxy S25 Series has the all-new One UI 7 platform which forms the foundation of Galaxy AI and the true AI companion it has evolved into.

This is the point where Samsung’s shared AI vision merges with Google’s Android AI features like Gemini to allow developers to innovate and incorporate AI in their next creations.

The S25 Series has new multimodal AI capabilities which allow the devices to do things like interpret text, speech, images and videos and interact with the user more naturally.

One upgrade is to Google’s Circle to Search which can now go beyond searching for what it sees on your screen.

Now it will have the ability to recognise phone numbers, emails and URLs on the screen and allowing users to call, email or visit those sites with one touch.

The Galaxy S25 Series can also be asked to perform actionable searches which will include contextual suggestions for added tasks.

For example, you may be looking up walking directions to a nearby address and the S25 may ask if you want to record your steps at the same time.

The S25 also makes it easy to switch apps if you need to follow up like sharing a file or saving event details or creating a calendar entry.

Samsung has also made advances in understanding natural language which makes interacting with the device easier than ever before.

You can now, for example, ask to find a specific photo in Samsung gallery or adjust the font size in the settings.

Users will also have access to Google’s Gemini AI.

A press and hold of the side button on the S25 will activate Gemini which will be able to perform seamless tasks via compatible Samsung, Google and other third party apps.

If you find your favourite team is playing on a certain date via Gemini you can still add it to the Samsung Calendar on the S25 with one touch.

This added intuitive power is expanded to Galaxy AI’s other popular tools which are used to be more productive and creative.

The Galaxy S25 can now record phone calls and provide a complete call transcript and summary.

Writing Assist can also help you summarise documents and automatically format notes without the need to switch between apps.

And Drawing Assist is now even more powerful and allows you to bring your ideas and sketches and text to life.

The lock screen now has a new look and includes a new feature called the Now Bar which can proactively offer suggestions based on what you’re doing while also providing a shortcut to all the active apps being used at that point for the task at hand.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy provides advanced and efficient processing of more AI experiences on device as well as efficient AI image processing with ProScaler.

ProScaler, like the upscaler technology on Samsung televisions, can now achieve a 40 per cent improvement in display image scaling quality.

Gamers will be happy to know the new processor comes with Vulkan Engine and provides improved ray tracing for more realistic experience.

On the camera side, the Galaxy S25 Series deliver stunning images and videos with high resolution sensors and the ProVisual engine which can take your mobile photography to an all new level.

There is a 50MP ultra-wide camera on board – a solid upgrade to the previous 12MP – which can deliver impressive clarity and natural colours.

When shooting video 10-bit HDR recording is now a default setting resulting in four times richer colour expression compared to 8-bit.

That means the Galaxy S25 can capture detail even in low light conditions while analysing movement and time to reduce noise more efficiently.

The Galaxy S25 also has a range of audio tools including Audio Eraser.

Audio Eraser allows the user to remove any unwanted noise in videos by isolating categories of sound like voice, music, wind, nature, crowd and noise.

And you can choose which of these you want to turn down or remove altogether.

The S25 can also provide a DSLR like experience with the Virtual Aperture which is now a part of the popular Expert RAW mode to open up a range of possibilities with your photography.

Portrait Studio has also been improved which look truer to life.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is for pre-order from today and will be go on sale on 14 February.
