Tech Guide got a chance to go hands on with the new HP Spectre Foldable PC and HP Envy Move All-In-One desktop computer that can be easily moved from room to room.
The products were unveiled at the HP imagine event at the company’s headquarters in Palo Alto in Silicon Valley.
A big theme of the keynote delivered by HP executives was the new hybrid lifestyle we are now leading where work is a thing you do rather than a place you go.
It also involves us working in various rooms of the house as well as on the move.
It was this theme that inspired this latest crop of innovative PCs from HP.
And we got a chance to take a hands-on look at the stunning new devices.
HP SPECTRE FOLDABLE PC
At first glance, the HP Spectre Foldable PC looks like a slightly thicker laptop.
But when you open it up, you’re looking at a stunning OLED display and a detachable keyboard that can be positioned to facilitate three different modes.
The first mode is regular laptop mode where the keyboard attaches magnetically to the bottom half of the display.
But you can also increase your screen real estate by simply sliding the keyboard towards you to give you another half of a screen of space.
And with Windows Snap you can even arrange your open windows to conform to this screen shape.
So you might have a video call in the main area of the display and your emails open in the portion of the screen just above the keyboard.
If you take the keyboard away altogether and open the screen to its full 17-inch size, you are now in tablet mode and can interact with the touch screen or write and draw using the included pen.
One thing that impressed us here was not only the quality of the OLED display but also how thin and light it was.
The screen fold is also remarkable with a three millimetre tolerance so that when folded flat you can barely see the crease.
On the back of the display is a kickstand so it can be rested on its own so you can use the HP Spectre Foldable PC in desktop mode.
All you need to do is bring the keyboard in front of the screen and you are now working at a desktop computer anywhere you want.
And the keyboard and pen don’t need to be charged. They receive a top up every time they’re magnetically attached to the Spectre’s foldable screen.
The HP Spectre Foldable PC is powered by the 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor engineered on the Intel Evo platform.
The onboard battery can run for up to 12 hours in laptop mode and up to 11 hours with arranged in desktop mode.
The HP Spectre Foldable PC is priced at $US5000 in the US so we can except a premium price when it’s released in Australia later this year.
HP ENVY MOVE ALL-IN-ONE PC
The HP Envy move is an all-in-one desktop PC with a 23.8-inch QHD screen and includes a keyboard with an attached trackpad.
But the key difference here is that it can be moved room to room as easy as you move a laptop.
On the back of the computer is a handle and a sleeve so you can tuck the keyboard away on the rear panel before carrying it to another room in your home.
And it only weighs about 4kg so it’s not a huge effort to pick up and relocate in another part of the house.
On the bottom of the Envy Move are retractable feet that fold away when you lift it off the desk and then they fold out again once it’s placed on another flat surface.
There’s also a rechargeable battery on board which runs for up to four hours which means there’s no limit to where you can take it to enjoy your content, do some work or follow a workout.
The HP Envy Move 23.8-inch All-In-One PC is powered by the 13th Gen Intel Core i5 processor with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, and up to 1 TB of storage.
