We go eyes-on with the new ASUS glasses-free 3D OLED laptop at CES

Glasses-free 3D is nothing new at the Consumer Electronics Show – we’ve seen it all before over the years – and it was pretty bad. But ASUS has come up with a 3D OLED laptop that has nailed the glasses-free experience while still offering stunning 3D.

When Avatar was released in cinemas more than 10 years ago it made 3D a technology that everyone wanted to be a part of including TV manufacturers.

But watching 3D on TV required active 3D glasses and not everyone remembered to charge them so 3D slowly died a death.

When they took the glasses out of the equation, the experience with TVs was pretty poor quality unless the viewer is sitting absolutely front and centre in front of the TV.

Now when you think about laptop, that’s generally a single person experience most of the time.

And you’d always be sitting right in front of it. For those looking from the side – all they are going to see is a blurry image.

Tech Guide went eyes-on with the 16-inch ProArt StudioBook 3D OLED and was amazed at how sharp and accurate the 3D effect was.

The technology is called Spatial Vision.

So how does it work?

The glasses-free 3D effect is achieved with a lenticular lens and advanced eye tracking camera technology – the two cameras (one for each eye) are located just above the screen.

The allows the display to create images for each eye that are interlaced so your brain sees a 3D image.

One great example we saw in the demonstration was looking at a jet engine in 3D.

Now we were able to twist and turn it so we could see the entire object and even zoom in for greater detail.

So imagine this technology in the hands of a designer or a creator? It could be a game changer.

And of course, it’s also great for entertainment as well.

We were able to watch the original Avatar film in 3D in excellent quality on the ASUS OLED laptop without wearing glasses.

Now for those wondering, you can easily switch the laptop back to 2D mode at any time and back to 3D again.

The choice is yours.

Here are the ASUS 3D OLED laptops

ASUS PROART STUDIOBOOK 3D OLED (H7604)

This is the world’s first 3D OLED mobile workstation for creators with its glasses-free 3.2K 120Hz 3D OLED display.

Under the hood is the 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series Laptop GPU, up to 64 GB of upgradeable memory and ultrafast storage.

ASUS VIVOBOOK PRO 16X 3D OLED (K6604)

This 16-inch laptop also includes the ASUS Spatial Vision technology and is powered by the 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, with graphics provided by the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series Laptop GPU, along with a MUX Switch and NVIDIA Studio Driver support for an on-demand performance boost when gaming.
