Arlo Ultra security cameras now HomeKit compatible to control through Apple devices

Arlo’s flagship Ultra 4K Wire-Free Security Camera system is now compatible with HomeKit – Apple’s smart home platform – to offers users greater control on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.

The Arlo Ultra system now joins Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 to offer HomeKit compatibility.

iOS users can now access functions from the Ultra cameras within the HomeKit ecosystem using the Home app.

A free firmware update which will install automatically on the Ultra cameras and SmartHub is now rolling out for new and existing users to activate the HomeKit compatibility.

Another advantage of having HomeKit onboard is the ability to control the cameras and access feeds with voice commands through Siri.

“We’re excited to expand the option for HomeKit cross-compatibility to our industry-leading Arlo Ultra camera, knowing our users have already found great value in the automations made available to them in previous-generation Arlo models,” said Brad Little, Vice President and Managing Director, Arlo Technologies.

“Now, Arlo’s line-up of wire-free camera solutions are fully compatible with HomeKit, giving users the added convenience to manage their cameras with simple voice commands.”

Any of your Arlo Ultra cameras linked to the SmartHub will send notifications to the Apple Home app when motion is detected.

Users can also set up automated triggers with other HomeKit compatible products even if they are made by another brand.

For example, users can program HomeKit-enabled lights to turn on when the Arlo Ultra cameras detect motion.

The Arlo Ultra cameras have 4K resolution, colour night vision, a 180-degree field of view, two-way audio, a built-in siren and an integrated spotlight.

To set up an Arlo camera with a HomeKit setup code:
1. Setup your Arlo camera and base station with the Arlo app.
2. Launch the Apple Home app.
3. Tap + > Add Accessory.
4. Scan the HomeKit setup code on your base station or quick start guide.
5. Follow the setup flow to name cameras and place them in HomeKit rooms.
Your devices are ready to use with HomeKit.
To set up an Arlo camera without a HomeKit setup code:
1. Launch the Arlo app on your Apple device.
2. Tap Settings > My Devices.
3. Select an Arlo base station.
4. Tap HomeKit.
5. Select the base station you want to add to HomeKit.
6. Select a Home or tap Add New Home.
If you don’t have a Home set up in the Arlo app, you are directed to create a Home.
7. Select a Room or tap Add a New Room.
If you don’t have a Room set up in the Arlo app, you are directed to create a Room.
8. Tap Continue to add devices to HomeKit to add cameras or additional base stations.
9. Continue through the setup flows to confirm the name and room placement for each device.
Note: The name that you give each device is used for Siri commands. Choose a unique name that is easy to remember and pronounce.
10. Confirm the name of the device.
11. Tap Skip, or rename any other devices as needed.
12. Tap Finish.
Your devices are ready to use with HomeKit.
