More drivers are realising the benefits of dash cams – they present your side of the story in the event of an accident. Uniden has numerous dashcams and has offered some tips on making the most of the device and your dash cam footage.
Brad Hales, Uniden’s Australian national marketing and communications manager, says more Australians are installing dash cams than ever before.
“The technology is being recognised as an invaluable tool to record incidents and the road to assist with car insurance claims,” Hales says.
New research shows 20 per cent of all Australian drivers are now recording their car journeys with a dash cam and 83 per cent said the main reason behind their purchase was to back up potential insurance claims.
The Uniden iGO CAM 85R records in 4K and also includes a full HD rear view dash cam so you get 360-degree protection.
The device is also powered by a super capacitor which allows for enough backup power to ensure any recording in progress is stored safely before shutting down.
iGO Cam 85R also has GPS geotagging as well as impacted motion detection technology to provide accurate and detailed data.

CAPTURE YOUR FOOTAGE IN 4K
4K offers much better resolution and high definition and that can come in handy when identifying details of an incident like car makes, models, colours and number plates.

DOWNLOAD AND BACK UP
It’s a good idea to download and backup your footage after an incident.
The Uniden iGO Cam 85R, iGO CAM 80 and iGO Cam 70 all have wi-fi on board which means users can upload footage from the dash cam to their mobile phone using the Uniden app.
PROTECT FOOTAGE
If your dash cam has captured important footage, it’s important to protect it.
There is lock protection on selected files that you can identify through the companion app or via a physical control on the device.
POSITION IT CORRECTLY
The ideal position for a dash cam is in the centre of the windshield.
It’s best to mount the camera close to the rear view mirror so it can capture both sides of the road and won’t block your view.
