Linksys turns its Velop mesh wi-fi routers into motion detectors

Linksys has introduced an all-new feature to its Velop mesh wi-fi systems – the ability to detect movement in your home and send you alerts.

This feature called Linksys Aware actually uses wi-fi signals to detect any movement or activity and then send a notification to the Linksys app.

For existing owners of the two-pack and three-pack Linksys Tri-Band AC2200 routers, this is a feature that can be activated with a software update.

“Since Linksys is first-to-market, we anticipate playing a large role in that revolution.”

There are number of ways that customers can take advantage of Linksys Aware including being able to detect intruders in your home while you’re out or away on holiday and detecting when your child gets home from school.

It can also be used to monitor the elderly who still choose to live in their own home for not only the times when they are moving about their home but also for them times when there might be no movement detected.

Linksys Aware will provide data for up to 60 days with the ability to view hourly, daily and weekly to discover actionable insights.

Users can control the frequency of alerts and notifications through the app and even customise the level of motion sensitivity in your home to avoid any false alarms.

Linksys Aware is free for the first 90 days and after that will cost users $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year.
