Google has released its Year in Search results which provides a snapshot of the moments, people and trends that captured our interest and attention in 2025.
This year the results ranged from cyclones and cricket to elections, Labubu and lava lamps.
These results reflect the world events we wanted to know more about, the people who were back in the headlines like Belle Gibson and Bianca Censori and the icons farewelled like Ozzy Osbourne, Diane Keaton and Gene Hackman.
Australians also showed great interest in natural disasters including Cyclone Alfred and looked up some of the biggest events like the Women’s Cricket World Cup and the Australian Open.
Before the Australian federal election, we were looking up Peter Dutton and afterwards we were find out about Sussan Ley.
And on the other side of the world we wanted to know more about Charlie Kirk after he was assassinated in Ohio and looked up Pope Francis who passed away along with Pope Leo who became the new Pontiff.
Google was also a place where we could learn things and ask questions.
The top queries were how to prepare for a cyclone, how to vote and how to talk to women.
We also hit Google up to find recipes for hot cross buns, Dubai chocolate and Turkish pasta and learn how to make a lava lamp, how to make an AI action figure and DIY car maintenance.
The questions we asked included: When is Easter and who won the election in Australia?
