Spotify launches new app aimed at the next generation of listeners

Spotify has launched Spotify Kids – a new app aimed at listeners age three years and older – which will provide a safe and ad-free environment for young music lovers to explore the latest tracks and playlists.

Spotify Kids is exclusive to Spotify Premium family subscribers and is a walled garden where kids can enjoy more than 130 playlists from child favourites including Disney, Nickelodeon and Hasbro.

It is a stand-alone app designed with young kids in mind and to give parents peace of mind with ad free content curated by Spotify’s team of editors.

The Spotify Kids interface looks quite different to the Spotify app and has been designed for navigation that is simpler and more playful.

“Spotify is committed to giving billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by music and stories and we’re proud that this commitment now includes the next generation of audio listeners,” says Spotify’s chief Premium business officer Alex Norstrom.

“We are excited to be expanding the Spotify Premium family experience with a dedicated app just for our youngest fans.

“Spotify Kids is a personalized world bursting with sound, shape and colour where our young listeners can begin a lifelong love of music and stories.”

Parents can specify the Spotify kids experience that’s best for their children from one of two categories including Audio for Younger Kids and Audio for Older Kids.

Audio for Younger Kids includes things like singalongs, lullabies and soundtracks chosen by Spotify editors

Audio for Older Kids includes playlists and popular tracks that are appropriate and relevant for their age group.

Every song and story on the Spotify Kids app has been vetted and hand-picked by the team following strict guidelines to ensure content is appropriate for children.

Local music will also feature in the playlists and will include artists like Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, Hilltop Hoods and other Australian classics.
