OpenSignal has released its latest Australian mobile network experience report with Optus leading the way with the overall experience while Telstra and Vodafone displayed strengths in other areas.
OpenSignal is an independent global standard for analysing connectivity experiences on cellular networks.
This latest report, which covers the first quarter of 2026, found that Optus continued to lead in 4G and 5G experiences including video, gaming and download speeds.
Optus has retained these awards in same the categories from the previous report.
Telstra continues to provide the most coverage in both 4G and 5G.
This coverage experience metric looks at the extent of mobile networks in the places where people live, work and travel in Australia.
Vodafone was the winner of the 4G and 5G upload speed awards, with 4G users experiencing upload speeds of up to 8.8 Mbps and 5G users reaching 15.6 Mbps.

The Vodafone 4G experience remains relatively unchanged while its 5G upload speeds improved by 1 Mbps.
Vodafone also won the award for consistency and shares the reliability experience award with Optus.
Vodafone has improved its consistency score by four per cent and increased its reliability score by 16 points.
Telstra gained the strongest year-on-year improvement in its reliability experience score, with an improvement of a massive 61 points over the report published in April 2025.
At the same time Optus and Vodafone have improved their reliability scores by 37 and 35 points respectively.
