With headphone jacks disappearing from smartphones, customers are now looking for wireless options like the Skullcandy Indy earphones which offer impressive sound at affordable price.
We’ve all cut the cord when it comes to headphones and earphones to give us more freedom and less tangles when we are listening to our content on the go.
The Skullcandy Indy earphones wirelessly connect to your mobile device via Bluetooth and come in a handy charging case.
The phones themselves look a lot like the Apple AirPods except they are slightly shorter and black.
Each bud has a small silicon tip that fits in your ear as well as an adjustable silicon wing to create an even more secure fit.
They fit comfortably in our ears and weren’t loose enough to fall out thanks to the additional wing that locked in place.
The issue we’ve had with other wireless earphones, including the Apple AirPods, is they can come loose and fall.
One time we knocked an AirPod loose after wiping our brow with a handkerchief while entering a lift and it fell down the gap as the doors were closing.
The Skullcandy Indy earphones offer a little bit more security so they are less likely to dislodge when you’re walking, running or doing any other kind of exercise.
Indy also has an IP55 rating which means the earphones are sweat, water and dust resistant so they can handle your training and daily use.
The charging case is also very similar to the Apple AirPods case but we had to adjust the silicon wing to allow the lid to close properly.
But what really impressed us was the sound quality.
The Skullcandy Indy earphones offer a rich and detailed sound with an impressive portion of bass.
There are also quite loud at full volume.
And with the silicon tip on the earbud, you also get some passive noise cancellation so you can hear your music even better.
But the good news is, it didn’t cut off the outside world completely so you can still safely here the world around you.
Call quality was also excellent on our end and the microphones also did a great job for us to be heard very clearly as well.
It was so clear, in fact, that some people we spoke to on the phone commented about it.
The Skullcandy Indy earphones offers capacitive touch controls so you can navigate your music and adjust the volume and answer calls with a tap on either earbud.
A tap on the left ear bud reduces the volume and a long press goes back to the start of the song or the previous track.
A tap on the right ear but increases the volume while a long press goes to the next track.
These actions took a little while to adjust to.
Sometimes when we wanted to change the track all we did was affect the volume.
But after a while, we did get the hang of it and it worked fine.
On the battery side you get about four hours of use before you need to pack them back into the charging case which can provide a total of 16 hours of use.
Battery performance could have been better especially when competitors are offering up to six hours of play time before they need to be recharged.
The Skullcandy Indy wireless earphones are available now in black but it will be offered in three other colours later this year – Moab Red, Indigo Blue and Mint. They are priced at $179.99.
