Garmin Forerunner 15 is an activity tracker and GPS watch in one
Garmin has announced the Forerunner 15 – an affordable GPS running watch that keeps track of your activities plus distance, pace and even your heart rate.
The Forerunner 15 will be Garmin’s lowest price GPS-enabled running watch and is positioned to give the growing activity band market a run for its money.
The device can do everything an activity band can do like counting steps and keeping track of calories burned but also adds GPS functionality and a host of other features.
Priced at $199 and $249 to include the heart rate bundle, the Garmin Forerunner 15 is close to the activity band price bracket but offers a complete fitness and lifestyle solution.
The product tracks distance, pace, calories burned, your personal fitness records as well as your heart rate.
There’s also an optional foot pod that can used to accurately track all of your indoor activities on the treadmill and in the gym when you’re out of sight of the GPS satellites.
Garmin’s Forerunner 15 can also give users an alert when they’ve been sitting still for too long.
If you haven’t had any activity for an hour it will give you a reminder that can only reset by walking around for a few minutes.
The device has a simple four-button user input and can store personal records along with personalised data fields to suit the type of exercise you’re doing.
When connected to a PC or a Mac it is also possible to upload your activities to the Garmin Connect – a free online fitness community to you can check your progress and also challenge your friends.
Forerunner 15 is also water resistant to a depth of 50 metres.
The Garmin Forerunner 15 is priced at $199 or $249 for the version with the chest-worn heart rate monitor.
It will be available in late May in a range of colours including black/green, teal/white, and violet/white in a small face and band width and black/blue, and red/black in a large face and band width.
