Samsung unveils Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone which unfolds to reveal a 10-inch display

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold – a remarkable new foldable smartphone which can unfold twice to reveal a huge 10-inch display to improve your productivity and content consumption on the move.

This further showcases Samsung’s engineering prowess in the foldable category with a multi folding design while still maintaining a slim profile and the portability of a premium smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold goes on sale on December 12 in China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the US.

There has been no indication at this point if the device will be released in Australia.

“Samsung’s relentless pursuit of new possibilities continues to shape the future of mobile experiences,” said TM Roh, Chief Executive Officer, President and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics.

“Through years of innovation in foldable form factors, Galaxy Z TriFold solves one of the mobile industry’s longest-standing challenges — delivering the perfect balance between portability, premium performance and productivity all in one device.

Galaxy Z TriFold now expands the boundaries of what’s possible for mobile work, creativity and connection.”

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is the result of years of research and development an engineering expertise.

It heralds the birth of a new category of large screen mobile devices.

In Samsung’s decade-long experience in developing foldable devices, understanding how people use their smartphones is what helped drive the innovation required to produce the Galaxy Z TriFold.

The device is just 3.9mm at its thinnest point and offers flagship performance powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy.

When folded the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is 12.9mm thick and a thicknesses of 4.2mm, 4mm and 3.9mm for each of the three panels.

It has a front 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display.

And when unfolded twice, users are presented with a 10-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with 1600nits peak brightness and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has unique multi-folding form factor which incorporates an inward folding design to protect the main display.

The mechanism has been precisely engineered so it is easy to open and close.

It even has an alarm if the user has folded the device incorrectly through a series of on screen alerts and vibrations.

On the camera side, the device has a 200MP main camera and the biggest battery Samsung has ever placed in a foldable phone with the capacity of 5600 mAh which runs across all three panels of the device to offer balance power delivery and all day performance.

Naturally, this Galaxy Z TriFold has Samsung’s most advanced hinges yet and incorporates two different size hinges with the dual rail structure that work in harmony and offer a smoother and more stable fold.

The foldable display also showcases new technology which includes a reinforced overcoat to add a shock absorbing layer and more durability across the dual folding device.

The frame of the device is made from advanced armour aluminium while the hinge has a titanium housing to offer high strength rigidity without increasing the bulk.

When the screen is completely opened it is like holding a tablet device in your hand to offer even greater multitasking and productivity.

It’s also a great way to enjoy movies and TV shows and an extended YouTube experience.

It is the first Samsung device with standalone Samsung DeX available and the ability to set up to four workspaces that can each run five apps at the same time.

Also on board is Galaxy AI which offers assistance when it comes to creating, editing and writing wall also providing generative edit options to your photographs.

The device also has Gemini live with multimodal AI so it can understand what you see, say and do.

Pricing has yet to be announced.
