Australia could become the setting for a future Call of Duty game according to a key game design director who has just landed in Sydney ahead of the launch of Modern Warfare 4.
“It’s such a stunning and beautiful city,” says Alex Norris, Associate Design Director at Infinity Ward – the developer behind the Call of Duty Modern Warfare games.
“I cannot go anywhere without looking at the surroundings and thinking about how to have combat in those surroundings – so you never know.
“At a minimum there would be some inspired elements but yeah, absolutely. Definitely a possibility.”
Norris is part of the Infinity Ward team that has shaped the memorable Call of Duty campaigns for more than a decade but he says Modern Warfare 4 takes a different approach.
“The thing I think is really separating it from Modern Warfare 1, 2, and 3 is that we’ve gone a bit back to our Call of Duty roots with this one,” Norris told Tech Guide.
“It really touches back into the infantry perspective, the grunt cog-in-the-machine approach.
“A lot of the previous Modern Warfare games were really about smaller directed raids going after terrorists in small townhouses or chasing them into the mountains.

“This is a bit of a change-up in that now we’re answering and resolving the storyline of Price and the things that happened to him, pushing the line wherever he needed it, and seeing how that kind of came to a head in Modern Warfare 3, reinvigorating the franchise by bringing us back to our Modern Warfare with a touch of infantry roots.
“We’ve got our grounded perspective from our South Korean grunts mixed in with U.S. Marines, that’s kind of our big swing on this one.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 goes on sale on October 23.
