Apple’s new iOS 11.3 software update is available now and brings with it new features including increased visibility of battery health, improved AR experiences and new animojis.
The free update also offers access to personal health records in the Health app and more ways to monitor the performance of your iPhone.
To install iOS 11.3 you need to head over to Settings > General > Software Update and here you should see the iOS 11.3 update which can be downloaded and installed on your iPhone or iPad.
It is quite a large file and will take a few minutes to install so make sure you’re on a wi-fi network with plenty of battery charge left on your device.
Design-wise there is nothing different about iOS 11.3, but you will find a number of additional features including:
BATTERY HEALTH AND PERFORMANCE
For those using slightly older iPhones (iPhone 6 and later), this is a handy feature which can be found in Settings > Battery.
Here you can see the health of your battery and how much charge it can hold.
Users can also choose to have the power management feature, which can maximise performance and prevent unexpected shutdowns, turned on or left off.
NEW AR EXPERIENCES
With iOS 11.3, the AR experience is even better and can now use vertical surfaces like walls and doors, as it did with horizontal surfaces.
And it looks even better too with the view of the real world through the camera in AR apps now with 50 per cent greater resolution with support for auto-focus so it looks even sharper.
ANIMOJI
There are now four new animojis which can be animated with your expressions including a lion, bear, dragon or skull.
The TrueDepth camera aboard the iPhone X allows users to record more than 50 different facial muscle movements onto one of these characters and attach to messages and share on social media.
DATA AND PRIVACY
This new iOS 11.3 update introduces updated data and privacy information so users can understand exactly how their personal data may be used.
A new privacy icon along with detailed privacy information will now appear whenever Apple asks to access personal information.
It would do this to enable features, secure Apple services or personalise an experience.
OTHER FEATURES
– Apple Music will now stream music videos uninterrupted by ads.
– Apple News makes it easy to stay up-to-date with the latest videos.
– Support for Advanced Mobile Location (AML) to automatically send your current location when making a call to emergency services where AML is supported.
