Samsung’s mission to deliver versatility and innovation in its 2019 smart TVs

Samsung’s 2019 range of QLED TVs have been designed to deliver style, picture quality and smart features but also to provide additional value and innovation in the modern home.

The company’s mission is to cater for many different solutions and deliver technology that will enable customers to do something different.

The latest range represents a journey to perfection with its always-improving QLED technology powering its flagship televisions.

There are many pillars that go in to create the high standard for Samsung televisions.

These include picture quality, AI, smart home integration, voice control and sound quality.

Samsung will also enter into new territory with its first 8K TVs to be released in Australia.

8K TV

The adoption of large TVs is growing and with it the need to increase the pixel count to maintain picture quality.

With four times the resolution of 4K, 8K TVs have an unprecedented pixel per inch count so the picture maintains its pristine quality despite its large size.

With this higher pixel count, viewers will be able to sit quite close to the screen without noticing individual pixels or imperfections of any kind.

Samsung’s QLED 8K TVs sold around the world will be available in 66-inch, 75-inch, 82-inch, 85-inch at a massive 98-inches. Sizes for Australia are yet to be confirmed. Details will be announced closer to the Australian launch date.

But there is no 8K content to view on these screens right now.

Samsung’s answer is an unprecedented upscaling ability that will bring any content to near 8K quality.

These new 8K TVs will also adopt an all-new HDMI 2.1 standard.

PICTURE QUALITY

The 2019 Samsung TVs include a backlighting system called Direct Full Array which provides deeper blacks and improved contrast.

Layers have been added to the screen to reduce light leakage as well as spreading light uniformly in all directions for a more consistent image.

The onboard cadmium-free Quantum Dot technology offers 100 per cent colour volume.

The new QHDR Elite Max will also allow viewers to visualise true HDR (high dynamic range).

At the heart of the new Samsung TVs is the Quantum Processor 4K which comes in to play in a number of areas including intelligent brightness control, 16 bit colour mapping and smart assistant Bixby 2.0.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

AI will be used in a number of ways on the latest Samsung Smart TVs including upscaling, audio and content discovery.

Machine learning will be used to create a formula bank to facilitate high-quality 4K and 8K upscaling.

It can actually analyse data to see the correlation between low-res and high-res content and uses an algorithm to learn the differences to get better at every attempt to upscale your content.

It will create detail, reduce noise and restore edges and provide an amazing upscaling result.

AI will also swing into action on the audio side as well.

The new Samsung TVs will be able to fine tune the room as well as analyse the source and content and select the most appropriate sound mode for your viewing environment.

Whether you’re watching sports or playing a game, the TV can automatically choose the right mode and give you was the best audio experience.

Gamers will also see an improvement in contrast and brightness without any impact on input lag.

Discovering new content will also be made faster and simpler with AI on the new Samsung TVs.

The new models will be able to combine on demand services and linear TV and aggregate content that suits your tastes.

Samsung recognises the TV is a shared device but it will still discover usage patterns along with the time of the day and time of the week when you are watching to intelligently compile suggestions on what you might want to watch.

INTERNET OF THINGS

Samsung recognises that the TV can play a central role in a smart home.

Users will be able to control a variety of devices via their Samsung television including smart lights, viewing security cameras, monitoring and controlling appliances and even directing robot vacuum cleaners.

The 2019 Samsung TVs will also have SmartThings onboard to cement that link with other smart devices and sensors within your home.

The range will also work with Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant.

This means you’ll be able to control the TV, turn on and off, and change the channel adjust the volume using your voice.

Mobile devices will be able to be used as a control point while the TV provides the dashboard that links with all of your connected devices.

The onboard AI will also recognise your routines and provide even more controls, modes and settings for your home.

Ambient Mode

AMBIENT MODE

Ambient Mode was introduced on Samsung’s 2018 televisions and will go to the next level with the 2019 line-up.

This year Ambient Mode will be even more versatile and customisable when the TV is not in use.

Rather than offering a dark rectangle, the TV will be able to display images, artwork and information in a low power mode.

And it will also be able to imitate  the wall the TV is mounted on so the screen can blend into the wall.

On board will be style settings to match your decor as well as the ability to apply artistic filters to your own photos.

There will also be the choice of Samsung backgrounds which are made up of patterns and colours as well as the ability to incorporate your own photos into an on-screen calendar.

REMOTE ACCESS

Remote Access is another new feature of Samsung’s 2019 smart TV range.

It will allow users to connect wirelessly from their Samsung Smart TV to PCs, tablets and smartphones and remotely control compatible programs and apps and access content.

Users will be able to link a wireless keyboard to the Samsung Smart TV to make it easier to search for and control their on-screen content.

This means users can remotely access a PC in another room through the Samsung TV to do things like surf the web or play a game on their television screen using their TV’s connected keyboard and mouse.
