RATING

The Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro is an excellent and sturdy scooter that can go anywhere – whether it’s taking you where you need to be or somewhere to ride just for fun.

  • VERDICT
Pros
  • Sturdy to handle all terrain
  • Responsive
  • Good ride quality
Cons
  • Could have a higher top speed

The Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro is a scooter you can take anywhere thanks to its all-terrain performance.

The laws here in NSW will be changing so riding scooters on the road will be legal soon and this would be a great choice as your ride.

It has a solid full suspension frame that’s strong enough to carry someone like me who weighs well over 100kg but can still power along.

The ZT3 Pro is on the larger side when it comes to electric scooters and that suited me because I’m on the larger side well and it was easy to stand on it comfortably while riding.

You can feel the suspension smoothing out the bumps – we took it to the park, over rough ground and on the road.

On the front is a telescopic front fork and at the rear is the swing arm coil suspension handle that compensate for any rough patches.

This includes not only rough terrain but also bumps in the road but also crossing driveways and navigating rough paths.

And there is a generous amount of clearance – 152mm – between the 11-inch all-terrain tubeless tyres.

The scooter also has an IPX5 rating so even if you’re riding through puddles and in the rain it will be fine.

Between all those features the ZT3 Pro offers a nice ride whether you’re on a commute or just tooling around for fun.

Power comes from a 1,600W high torque brushless motor body with 25km/h the top speed.

The bike weighs a little under 30kg. The handlebars can be folded down to make it easier to transport, to carry on to a train and to put in a car.

I would have like a higher top speed to get where I need to go a little quicker. Plus that added power would help with bigger riders like me getting up hills.

The speed took a little hit as I hit a slope.

When you first start riding you will discover the torque is instant.

It takes a little getting used to make sure you don’t throttle too hard too early.

We did this and the ZT3 Pro jerked forward and we almost lost our balance – but now we know just the right level of pressure.

Range is up to 70km in Eco Mode or 50km if you want to lash out and enjoy Sport Mode.

The ZT3 Pro is a safe and stable ride and it has more to do with its size and suspension.

The Segride stability enhancement technology work with the Traction Control System (TCS) to improve control and grip and irons out most of the handlebar shake and wheel slip even on wet and slippery surfaces.

You can easily see your speed, mode and battery level on the three-inch hexagonal LCD display which is easy to read even in direct sunlight.

If you’re riding at night the scooter has a 4W front light, front and rear indicators and the signature X daytime running light so you can be easily seen day or night.

There is a companion app which give you a way to upgrade the scooters firmware and glance the modes and the battery level.

Bit we hardly used the app because everything we needed was right there in front of us.

Onboard the ZT3 Pro is an upgraded battery management system with three layers of protection and flash charge technology so you can be fully charged in just four hours.

The ZTE Pro is available now and is priced at $1,999.
