Robot vacuum mops have come a long way with Ecovacs leading the way with its DEEBOT range and the X12S OmniCyclone has taken cleaning and convenience to another level.
Tech Guide has been testing the Ecovacs Robotics DEEBOT X12S OmniCyclone since shortly after it was unveiled at the IFA Show in Berlin in September.
Ecovacs has packed in plenty of features and upgrades into the X12S which has a new level of power that makes it an effective cleaner so you can get on with other things.
At our place we placed the X12S OmniCyclone station in the corner of our main living area.
This action alone speaks volumes about the look and design of the OmniCyclone station which has a sleek look with silver brushed metal accents.
Ecovacs has even thought to tint the clear dustbin to disguise the collected dust but still make it easy see how much dust is inside when you get closer.
The unit is 38cm wide and 49cm long which is a relatively small footprint for a device as powerful as this.
Set-up is simple through the Ecovacs app and the first step is connecting the robot to your wireless network and running any firmware upgrades.
What the robot needed to do next is map your home. It went off and scanned our floor plan on its own which is then shown in the app.
The AIVI 3D 4.0 technology did a great job creating the map but also is always on the lookout for any obstacles and steers around them.
The OmniCyclone Station is where the robot charges and includes a clean water tank and a tank where the dirty water will be transferred.
It’s also where the dust is transferred from the robot into the dustbin which can be easily emptied cleanly and conveniently into your garbage.
Now at our place, our floor is mainly tiles with a couple of carpeted rooms and a rug.
There is also a laundry and a small powder room, which have slightly higher thresholds the robot easily got up and over.
We did notice a couple of times the force of getting up and over the threshold left some dust behind.
Usually it picks this up on its way out but there was one occasion where we had to clean it ourselves.
The X12S OmniCyclone robot has a side brush, an anti-tangle main brush, along with an antibacterial filter and a roller that extends to reach in closer to skirting boards and under cabinets.
The OZMO ROLLER 3.0 has improved downward pressure (4000 Pa) and higher-speed (260 RPM) scrubbing which means stains don’t stand a chance.
And the roller lifts by 1.5cm and a smart roller cover clicks into place when it moves from hard floors to stay clear of carpets to them dry and avoid cross-contamination.
The unit also has 27,000 Pa blast suction which offers 53AW of suction power.
Now we know how powerful this suction is.
At IFA in Berlin we saw the X12S suck a 25kg ball up a tube so it had no issue vacuuming dust and debris off the hard floors and carpet at our place.
X12S also has FocusJet Stain technology which can pre-treat messes with extra water through the front jets shift more stubborn stains.
This needs to be enabled in the settings and includes a way to control exactly where in your home you would prefer a no-spray zone to protect furniture and other surfaces.
We left this on and it was remarkable how it could identify these areas and soak them ahead of a thorough clean with the roller.
We normally move chairs and clear the floor when we deploy the robot but the X12S OmniCyclone can find its way in and around your furniture quite deftly.
Through a combination of its side brushes and true edge extreme edge cleaning, the X12S did a tremendous job in getting into those hard-to-reach places as well as under and around furniture.
The X12S did a great job controlling water flow so there was never any residual water. It just left dry clean floors in its wake.
In terms of cleaning quality, the X12S has set a new standard.
The robots of the past were good at maintaining a level of cleanliness but the X12S really gets to work to get through the dirt and dust and stains effectively and leave you with a spotless home.
Our tiles were clean and shiny and it was easy to see just where the robot had traversed our carpets with the suction leaving definitive tracks just like a powerful stick vac would.
The robot would regularly return to the station to clean the roller and to transfer dirty water and replace it with clean water.
At the same time it was also recharging its battery to reduce interruptions and create more efficiency.
X12S can restore 13 per cent of the battery in just 3 minutes.
The DEEBOT X12S OmniCyclone is a complete cleaning solution that does a great job with your carpets and hard floors without you having to lift a finger.
It is really easy to maintain and can run on its own for weeks at a time.
The unit is priced at $2,999 which is an investment – it’s an investment in your time.
It means you get your time back instead of spending it vacuuming and mopping your floors.
