The world’s first Smart Glasses have been unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The M100 offers a handsfree display for on-the-go data access.
The device fits over your ear like a Bluetooth headset but has an extended arm with a personal display to allow users to stream video, text messages, emails, maps and audio from their smartphone which may be stored in their pocket or bag.
The Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses also has an integrated camera that can capture 720p video and stills literally from the user’s point of view and store them on the device’s SD card.
With the M100 Smart Glasses paired with a smartphone, it can feed messages and emails along with video and web content to the 16:9 display which sits a short distance from the eye.
The screen is bright enough to be visible indoors and outdoors.
Also included with the device are an integrated head tracker and GPS for spatial awareness so the M100 Smart Glasses can know your location and the direction you’re facing.
With this information, the product can know where you are and what you’re looking at and offer information about your environment and the objects around you.
And of course the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses can also handle audio and has a speaker and a microphone so they can be used like a regular Bluetooth headset.
The Vuzix M100 won a CES Award for design and innovation and was selected as Best Technology in the Wireless Handset Accessory category.
The device will go on sale later this year.
