- RATING
The LG Smart Monitor Swing is a fun and versatile device that can allow you to enjoy excellent quality to work and play wherever you want in your home.
The LG Smart Monitor Swing is a versatile 31.5-inch screen that’s positioned on an adjustable arm and on wheels so you can move it anywhere in your home where you need it to be entertained or get some work done.
The 31.5-inch display is a touchscreen with 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) and a 16: 9 aspect ratio.
The IPS Screen is sharp and bright with a 60Hz refresh rate.
Onboard Is the same LG web OS you would find on LG’s TVs which gives you access to the many features and settings of the monitor as well as all the popular streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Stan, Prime Video, Binge and Kayo Sports.
And if you want to watch free to air TV – you can through the catch up apps because it doesn’t have an aerial connection.
It’s an impressive way to enjoy your games and movies thanks to the onboard dynamic tone mapping which can adjust brightness and contrast to give games and movies an added level of detail and realism.
It is perched at the end of an arm which can be adjusted to suit your eye level or where you happen to be situated in your home.
It’s possible to have the LG Smart Monitor Swing beside the couch or next to your bed or in another comfortable area of your house.
Not only is the arm adjustable but the screen can also be tilted an angled as well to suit your viewing position.
There was a slight issue with reflections so if you are moving the LG Smart Monitor Swing into a bright room you may need to angle the screen to avoid catching any of that light on the screen.
It has a heavy base to make it stable but it’s also on wheels so you can move it room to room without much effort.
Rolling it over carpet is obviously a little harder than hard floors but it was not much extra effort.
But being portable does not mean you don’t need power.
There is no rechargeable battery on board so you need to find a power point, and maybe an extension cord, to use it where you want to in your home.
For our review we used nearby wall points in the rooms where we use the product but also had a portable power station for those areas of the home that didn’t have readily accessible power.
We would have preferred a battery being built in the unit – there is certainly enough room in the base which is where the power brick resided.
This power brick connects inside the base to a cable that runs up the arm and into the back of the screen.
One thing to note is the size of the unit. The stand and screen are a decent size and when not in use it still takes up a bit of room.
The back of the screen is also where you will find two HDMI inputs and three USB C inputs so you can connect a set top box or a gaming console and a computer or laptop to use it to either mirror your existing screen or extended to provide extra screen real estate to complete your work.
The USB C ports can be used for display output, data transfer and for charging your devices at up to 65W.
The screen could also be viewed not just in landscape mode but also twisted around to portrait mode for those times where you want to mirror your smartphone or view content or work on documents need a little more depth.
We used the LG Smart Monitor Swing to mirror our MacBook Air so we could have a bigger view of our content and our workspace.
There are also speakers on board but the sound quality was pretty standard so those demanding higher quality audio may decide to include an external speaker or small soundbar in the mix.
One of the best features of the LG Smart Monitor Swing is the fact that it is a touchscreen so you can enjoy engaging content and games anywhere in your home.
Also built in is Apple Airplay so it’s easy to wirelessly mirror your iPhone, iPad or Mac to the LG Smart Monitor Swing.
Android users can also use screen share to mirror audio and video content from their devices as well.
Gamers will also enjoy the LG Smart Monitor Swing Not only because it can be conveniently positioned in your home but also its ability to access cloud games as well as accessing streaming apps to view live play and other gaming content.
And just like LGS TV’s, the LG Smart Monitor Swing To monitor your smart devices through the ThinQ Home Dashboard.
It comes with Its own small remote but users can purchase an LG Magic Remote separately to enjoy things like voice commands through Alexa.
The LG Smart Monitor Swing is available now and is priced at $1,699.
