For months it was feared the new iPhone 17, which will be unveiled in a week, would see a dramatic price hike due to new tariffs but analysts believe the pricing will be remain close to iPhone 16 levels.
Analysts from JP Morgan says Apple will be keeping pricing steady according to a report by 9 to 5 Mac.
The report says JP Morgan predicts the pricing of the iPhone 17 will largely remain unchanged.
JPMorgan projects the starting pricing will be:
– iPhone 17: $US799 / $A1,399 (no increase)
– iPhone 17 Air: $US899-949 / $A1,599-$A1,699 (no increase or $US50 / $A100 increase on the iPhone 16 Plus price)
– iPhone 17 Pro: $US1,099 / $A1,999 ($US100/ $A200 increase but with higher storage)
– iPhone 17 Pro Max: $US1,199 / $A2,149 (no increase)

This means the iPhone 17 Pro will be offered with 256GB as its lowest capacity but will be the same price as the 256GB iPhone 16 model which was $A1,999.
So while starting prices for the iPhone 17 Pro will be slightly higher than last year it is only because the starting memory variants have also increased.
JPMorgan’s analysts says the wild card is the new iPhone 17 Air with a $US899 starting price.

As it’s expected to take the place of the iPhone 17 Plus the pricing may start at $A1,599 – the same price as the iPhone 16 Plus.
Analysts believe the price will stay at this level to make up for lack of extra cameras – the iPhone 17 Air has a single camera but any added pricing Apple applies will be for the super thin form factor expected to be a svelte 5.65mm.
The Apple event to reveal the new iPhones kicks off at 3am September 10 AEST.
