Apple has just unveiled its thinnest iPhone ever – the iPhone Air. It is just 5.6mm thick and weighs only 165g but it offers more durability than any previous iPhone along with powerful performance and all-day battery life.
It is also the first time Apple has made an iPhone with no SIM card tray for the entire world.
The iPhone Air will only work with an eSIM.
iPhone Air will be available in four colours – Sky Blue, Light Gold cloud white and space black and will start at $1,799 dollars for the 256GB model.
APPLE LAUNCHES REDESIGNED iPHONE 17 AND iPHONE 17 PRO
You will be available for pre order on September 12, 2025, and will go on sale on September 19, 2025.
Interestingly, the iPhone Air was not given a number like the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro.
This could mean iPhone Air may not be updated every year.
The device is made from spacecraft grade titanium and has a polished mirror finish with Ceramic Shield 2 coating on both the screen and the rear panel for added protection.
This is 4x more resistant to cracks then the previous back glass.
iPhone Air has a 6.5 inch display with up to 3000 nits peak brightness.
On the design side. there is a plateau on the rear panel that houses the camera system and other circuitry to maximise battery space.
The device is powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip which has a faster and more efficient six-core CPU and five-core GPU.
Despite only having a single lens 48-megapixel Fusion camera, Apple says It does work like multiple cameras in one.
It can be used to shoot high resolution 48-megapixel for even more detail and 24-megapixel by default.
It also has a 2x telephoto zoom to get you even closer to your subject.
iPhone Air has a new Centre Stage front camera which has a larger square sensor which means users can shoot portrait or landscape selfies without having to rotate the device.
It also has a wider field of view which expands automatically when your friends join the shot.
Also on board is a new Dual Capture video feature so you can record what you’re viewing through the main camera while also recording your own reactions through the front camera.
Apple says the iPhone Air will deliver up to 27 hours of video playback and can charge up to 50 per cent in just 30 minutes.
This improved battery capacity is due to the internal design of iPhone Air which was completely re-engineered to maximise the space for the battery so it can last all day.
On the connectivity side, the iPhone Air supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 thanks to its new N1 wireless chip which provides faster secure connections with 5G and eSIM.

iPhone Air will also come preloaded with the new iOS 26 which features the new liquid glass design which gives the interface a stunning new look.
iPhone Air also supports Apple Intelligence and unlocks features like Visual Intelligence which lets you ask contextual questions about what’s on your screen along with Live Translation and Clean Up of unwanted distractions in photos with a single tap.
iPhone air accessories will include a bumper case, a new cross body strap add an iPhone Air MagSafe battery which can add up to 40 hours of video playback.
