Apple has redesigned the new 10th generation iPad which now features a squarer shape, an all-screen design and a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display.
Under the hood is the A14 bionic chip for even faster performance and higher power efficiency to offer all day battery life.
The new iPad is priced from $749 and will go on sale on October 26.
“We’re so excited to bring the completely redesigned iPad to our most advanced iPad line-up ever,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“With a large 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, powerful A14 Bionic chip, a first-ever landscape front camera, fast wireless connectivity, USB-C, and support for incredible accessories like the new Magic Keyboard Folio, the new iPad delivers more value, more versatility — and is simply more fun.”
The new all-screen iPad is available in four finishes – blue, pink, yellow and silver.
The 10.9-inch liquid retina display goes edge to edge and, without a home button, offers even more space to enjoy your apps, games and viewing content.
It has a larger screen size than the 9th generation iPad, but the unit’s physical dimensions are almost the same.
The display has a 2360 x 1640 pixel resolution with 500 nits of brightness and True Tone technology.
Because there is no longer a home button, Touch ID has now moved to the top button on the new iPad and is just as easy to log in, authorise app downloads and to use Apple Pay.
On the performance side, the A14 bionic chip offers a 20 per cent increase in CPU and 10 per cent improvement in graphics over the previous model which means the new iPad is up to 5x faster than the best-selling Android tablet.
Customers upgrading from older iPads will see up to 3x improvement in overall performance.
The processor also brings advanced machine learning functions thanks to its 16-core neural engine which makes the new iPad a truly capable device that can handle everything from working on school projects, editing high resolution video or playing the latest graphics- intensive game.
Apple has also moved the front facing camera to the landscape edge of the new iPad – this is the first time the camera has been relocated on any iPad.
This makes things easier for users on FaceTime calls or video conferences and ensures they will always be looking right towards the camera rather than off to the side.
That front camera is 12-megapixel ultrawide camera has a 122-degree field of view with support for Centre Stage, so it automatically keeps you centred even if you move around.
The rear 12-megapixel wide camera on the new iPad can produce high-res images and shoot 4K video with support for 240 frames per second slow motion.
The dual microphones onboard work hand in hand with the cameras and capture audio from the camera being used and can even turn down distracting background noise.
There is no longer a lightning port on the new iPad – it has been replaced by USB C and brings it in line with the other iPads in the range.
The USB C port can not only be used for charging but also supports a wide range of accessories.
Apple we will also offer a new Magic Keyboard Folio designed especially for the new iPad for those customers who prefer a tactile typing experience with full size keys, 1mm of travel and a responsive feel.
The keyboard magnetically attaches to the smart connector on the edge of the iPad to provide both power and data so the keyboard will never need to be charged or paired – it will just work.
The new iPad is also running the new iPadOS 16 which includes improvements in messaging, Mail, Safari and the iCloud Shared Photo Library.
The new iPad is priced at $749 (64GB – wi-fi), $999 (256GB – wi-fi), $999 (64GB wi-fi + cellular) and $1,249 (256GB – wi-fi + cellular).
The 9th generation iPad will still be available from $549 for wi-fi only and from $779 for wi-fi + cellular models in silver and space grey
The new Magic Keyboard Folio for the new iPad is $399 and is only available in white.
The Smart Folio for the new iPad is $129 and is available in white, sky, watermelon and lemonade.
The new iPad is available to pre-order from today and goes on sale on Wednesday October 26.
