Netgear’s Arlo Q camera lets you keep an eye and an ear on your home

Netgear has just released its latest high definition security camera, the Arlo Q, that links to your home wi-fi network so you can keep an eye – and an ear – on your property.

The Arlo Q joins the popular Arlo wire-free battery powered weather proof camera that can be used inside and out.

Arlo Q is designed to be used inside only and it also needs to be plugged in to a power point.

So with that constant supply of power, there’s no need to conserve the batteries as it would be with the Arlo wire-free cameras, so it can constantly stream 1080p full high definition video with enhanced night vision and two-way audio.

The Arlo Q is a different size and shape as the previous Arlo wire-free cameras and it has a magnetic mount, an adjustable stand so it can be installed how you want.

And it’s really easy to sync the Arlo Q to your home network – you don’t even need the original base station that came with the original Arlo wire-free cameras – it connects wirelessly to your router.

Set up is really easy. You simply fire up the Arlo app and click “Add Camera” and your device will find the camera on your network.

And when it’s found, the app will generate a QR code for you hold in front of the camera to complete the connection.

Once it registers the QR code you will hear a chime to indicate the camera is now linked to your network.

Now you will be able to monitor your home through the Arlo app and choose to receive notifications if the camera detects movement or sound.

It also has night vision so can see clearly in the dark as well.

And with two-way audio, it means you can not only hear what’s going on but also talk back through the camera.

For example, if you’re expecting a delivery, you can talk to the courier and give them instructions after the camera detects the movement.

If you do receive notifications, there is a link that allows you to watch a recording of the incident which is stored in the cloud for up to seven days.

There’s also an option to upgrade to CVR (continual video recordings) which keep 24/7 recording in the cloud.

The Arlo Q is available now and is priced at $349.
