Grid Studio has made a name for itself taking apart old iPhones, iPods, smartphones and portable gaming devices and turning them into framed works of art. It’s latest creation – the original iPad – has become the latest sought-after collectible.
Released earlier this month, Grid iPad (1st Generation) has a framed original iPad inside with the screen and rear anodised aluminium panel on either side of the frame.
The frame is more than twice the size of Grid Studio’s iPhone frames at 69cm long, 45cm wide and 4.7cm thick.
Also arranged on mat is the wi-fi antenna, light sensor, volume buttons, charging connector, A4 chip and motherboard.
In the top left corner it has the Apple logo and iPad: Announced January 2010.
This is significant to me because I was at that launch event in San Francisco when I was still working at the Daily Telegraph.
Former Apple CEO, the late Steve Jobs took to the stage for the announcement looking frail and thin as he battled pancreatic cancer, yet his passion and charisma shone through.

The iPad has gone on to become one of the world’s most popular consumer electronics products.
This year Apple released the 10th generation iPad which has had a complete redesign with an all-screen display.
The Grid iPad (1st Generation) is usually priced at $743 but is currently $594 with the next batch to be released in the coming weeks.
