VERDICT
  • RATING
Pros
  • Light and small design
  • Super easy to fly
  • Many ways to control it
  • Impressive 4K video quality
  • Easy ways to capture powerful shots
Cons
  • No memory card slot
  • Flight time could be better

The DJI Neo 2 is one of the most versatile drones you can buy that’s super simple to use but still capable of producing absolutely stunning results.

The new DJI Neo 2 is not only one of the smallest lightest drones you can buy – it’s also one of the most versatile with multiple ways you can control it and powerful ways to capture selfies and videos.

The DJI Neo 2’s predecessor was outstanding but this new model is even better, even easier to fly, even easier to capture stunning content and even safer to fly.

And it’s small enough to take with you anywhere – including your travels because you’ll be hard pressed to find an easier and more dynamic way to capture the sights and remarkable selfies.

Weighing just 151g, the DJI Neo 2 might be small but it packs in some excellent features including a 12MP 1/2CMOS sensor that can capture 4K video at up to 100fps and 2.7K vertical video.

The Neo 2 is suitable for a wide range of customers from beginners to savvy pilots because it is super simple to fly.

On the design side, the drone is compact and sturdy and has a small display to the left of the camera so at a glance you see what mode it’s in when it’s pointing towards you.

It can take off from the palm of your hand and follow you around and capture everything around while you are handsfree and taking in your surroundings at the same time.

Unlike shooting on your smartphone, the DJI Neo 2 lets you stay in the moment and enjoy what you’re experiencing and your amazing surroundings.

There is no need for a tripod or the need to ask a stranger to take your photo or video.

The follow-me feature is even better and more responsive.

You can decide how much distance the drone keeps away from you and the angle you want to be shot from flat to high.

You can choose if you want the Neo 2 to follow you from behind you or track you from in front of you.

You can choose waist up, full body tracking or long shots. The choice is yours.

There is also active track so the drone can easily keep up with you if you’re running and cycling.

In this mode the drone can track at speeds of up to 12m/s.

Beginners don’t have to learn any complicated controls – the follow me feature takes off from the palm of your hand and – when you’re done – just extend your palm and it will become the Neo 2’s landing pad a few seconds later.

There are all-round propellor guards so you’re not going to be nicked by the blades when it touches down in your hand.

There are now also gesture controls to let you pilot the drone.

With a single palm you can control the drone’s left and right movement and altitude. With two palms you can bring them together to make the drone fly towards you and move them apart to fly it away from you.

You can also use your voice and sends commands via smartphone to the drone or through your Bluetooth headphones.

Another excellent feature is Intelligent Shooting Mode which includes dolly zoom, QuickShots and MasterShots.

QuickShots includes dronie, circle, rocket, helix and boomerang.

These offer a simple and fast way to capture stunning video that can really show off your environment.

MasterShots can automatically capture shots with creative movements that can be intelligently edited with music to produce high quality content.

But the DJI NEO 2 Fly More Combo includes a joystick DJI-RC-N3 controller that can connect with your smartphone if you want to fly the drone further away from you.

DJI RC Motion 3 controller

Also available is the DJI RC Motion 3 control which lets you control the drone by movement.

On the safety side, the DJI Neo 2 has omni-directional sensors and forward-facing LiDAR to detect obstacles in real time so even a beginner can feel safe and confident flying the drone from their maiden voyage.

It also has advanced hovering so it can just sit there so it’s easy to control close to buildings and even indoors and in other challenging environments.

The DJI Neo 2 has a flight time of about 19 minutes.

There is no memory card slot but there is 49GB of internal storage which is enough space for up to 105 minutes of 4K/60fps video, 175 minutes of 4K/30fps or 241 minutes of 1080p/60fps.

And it’s easy to transfer your images and videos wirelessly to your smartphone via the DJI Fly app.

Or you can connect a USB-C cable to your computer and drag off the video and images likes it’s a USB drive.

The DJI Neo 2 is available to order now from store.dji.com/au and authorised retail partners, in the following configurations:

– DJI Neo 2 (Drone Only) – $409.

– DJI Neo 2 Fly More Combo (Drone Only) – $549.

– DJI Neo 2 Fly More Combo – $709.

– DJI Neo 2 Motion Fly More Combo – $989.

VERDICT

The DJI Neo 2 is one of the most versatile drones you can buy that’s super simple to use but still capable of producing absolutely stunning results.
