Online travel agency TravelBird has compiled a list of the most Instagrammed tourist attractions in the world with the Sydney Opera House named as the most popular Australian landmark.
TravelBird found the most popular hashtags on Instagram and used the sum of these searches to work out the most popular places of interest on earth featured on the photo-sharing platform.
Topping the list was Disneyland in California with more than 14 million tags, followed by the Eiffel Tower in Paris with more than 7 million tags.
Coming in at number three with 5.4 million tags was Walt Disney World in Florida.
The most popular Australian tourist attraction was the Sydney Opera House which was ranked number 41 with 540,000 tags.
Incredibly, it was the only Australian location to make the list of 470 landmarks.
Other places to feature in the top 10 of TravelBird’s list includes the Berlin Wall, South Beach in Florida, the Las Vegas Strip, Big Ben in London, Times Square in New York and Notre Dame in Paris.
The study by TravelBird revealed that 55 per cent of Instagram users were aged between 18 and 29, 28 per cent between the ages of 30 and 49, 11 per cent 50 to 64 and 4 per cent aged 65 and over.
