Click Frenzy online sale flops after servers crash

It was billed as the sale that stops a nation but it was the nation that stopped the sale after the Click Frenzy site crashed and left bargain hunters staring at blank screens.

Despite being geared to handle a million visitors, the Click Frenzy website buckled under the weight of the rush of shoppers who were all trying to log on and access the servers simultaneously when the sale kicked off at 7pm Sydney time.

While www.clickfrenzy.com.au is now up and running, the page was inaccessible for several hours.

Shoppers took to social media to express their frustration on Facebook and Twitter with most reporting on the site crash, transactions timing out and crashing and how Australia is now a laughing stock in the US for trying to imitate their huge online sales.

What the embarrassing glitch points out is the fact that Australians are more than willing to shop online for a bargain but it seems our sites aren’t geared up to handle it.

The Click Frenzy crash had a flow on effect to the Westfield, Myer, Dick Smith and Target sites as well after the retailers were named as participating stores.

Once shoppers were unable to log into the Click Frenzy site they turned their attention to the actual store sites that were also brought down for a short time as well.

David Jones was not a part of Click Frenzy but, instead, had set up its own online sale. Its site also crashed.

But if you were still after a bargain the Click Frenzy site is working and will continue until 7pm tonight Sydney time.

Shoppers can search for through a number of categories before being directed to the participating stores.
