Logitech has released its first solar-powered keyboard – the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 – which doesn’t need any batteries or charging cables so it can always maintain premium performance without interruption.
The slim low-profile keyboard utilises Logitech proprietary Logi LightCharge Technology and a solar strip that sits above the keys.
This allows the keyboard to be powered by any light whether its sunlight or the lights in our homes and offices.
That light provides the only charge needed to top up the built-in battery.
And Logitech is so confident the LightCharge Technology will provide enough power for a perpetual charge there is no USB-C port.
So even if you wanted to charge the battery with a cable you couldn’t.
This means there are no cables of any kind required and no need to even think about charging the keyboard.
When it is fully charged Logitech says it can work for four months in complete darkness.
The Signature Slim Solar + K980 keyboard has a full size keyboard layout with six rows of keys including a row of function keys.
There is also a full size numerical keypad on the right along with cursor control keys.
It has scissor-switch keys to provide a laptop-like typing experience.
The keyboard connects to a Mac or PC via Bluetooth thanks to its multi-OS layout.
It also has multi-device functionality so users can switch between three paired devices.
You could have the Signature Slim Solar + K980 paired to your desktop computer, a tablet, a smartphone or a laptop.
And with the press of a button you can easily switch connection.
So if a message comes in on your smartphone while you’re typing on your computer you can switch to your smartphone and type your reply even faster.
The keyboard is also compatible with the Logi Options+ app so you can personalise the experience even further and assign Smart Actions to automate common and repeated tasks.
There is also an AI Launch key which can be set up to access your preferred platforms like Copilot+, Gemini or ChatGPT.
There is also a version of the Signature Slim Solar + K980 designed for business users and includes a USB-C receiver for a more secure connection in high-density office environments.
Logitech Sync also allows IT managers to monitor the keyboard status and provide support for firmware updates.
The Logitech Signature Slim Solar + K980 is made from 70 per cent certified post-consumer recycled plastic with the internal battery designed to last more than 10 years so they will need replacement less often.
These factors all align with Logitech’s Design For Sustainability goals to reduce the company’s carbon footprint with durability, reliability and long-term performance.
The Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 keyboard is available now and is priced at $179.95.
The business variant is priced at $189.95.
