There are users who live their life through their laptops when they are home, in the office and on the go and the Elgato Thunderbolt 2 Dock allows them to connect to a monitor, speakers, external hard drive and much more with a single cable.

The device acts like a central hub to provide an easy connection so you can get a complete performance out of your laptop as well as connect up to two monitors and other peripherals.

Elgato’s Thunderbolt 2 Dock measures just 20cm long, 8.9cm wide and 2.9cm high and is not going to take up much of your valuable desktop space.

It also has a silver chassis that makes it looks like it’s made from the same material as a MacBook.

This device will suit someone who wants to view their work on a larger screen when they’re deskbound.

The Thunderbolt 2 Dock has a HDMI and two Thunderbolt ports so it can support any monitor you choose up that has resolutions all the way up to 4K resolution.

Connectivity options on the device are the main reason people will want to buy this product.

These include a HDMI port, two Thunderbolt ports, three USB 3.0 ports (including one on the front of the unit), a Gigabit Ethernet connection along with a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 3.5mm microphone input and a power input.

The dock obviously suits a Mac or PC laptop with built-in Thunderbolt ports so you can not only connect a monitor but also upload and download data at high speeds.

And when it’s time to disconnect, there’s no need to eject all of the connected peripherals individually.

Thanks to the Elgato Thunderbolt Dock Utility software – you can do all of them at once.

The USB ports can even be used to charge devices with enough output to recharge a tablet as well.

It’s also possible to link your home or office broadband through the Ethernet port to your laptop as well for a more reliable connection.

You’re also covered on the audio side as well with amplified ports for stereo sound whether you’re wearing headphones or using a microphone.

The device works with Mac laptops running OS X 10.9 or later and PC’s running Windows 8.1 or above.

VERDICT

For convenience and versatility the Elgato Thunderbolt 2 Dock is hard to match to make your computing life easier. But that convenience doesn’t come cheap.

It is available now and is priced at $339.95.
