Samsung finally did it. After seven generations of the Galaxy Z Fold, Samsung has nailed the design and the front screen size which we think will turn this from a niche product into a popular mainstream device.
Tech Guide took a hands-on look at the new Galaxy Z Fold7 and from the second we had it in our hands, we liked what we saw.
The first thing that strikes you is the larger 6.5-inch front display which is close to the same size as a regular smartphone.
We sat it beside the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Edge and the difference in screen sizes was in the fractions of a millimetre.
Compared to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 which was a hefty 12.1mm, the Z Fold7 is slimmer than a supermodel at 8.9mm.
That’s some engineering right there to be able to reduce the size, thickness and weight of a product in less than 12 months is remarkable.
It is so thin it is only slightly thicker than the Galaxy S25 Ultra which is 8.2mm.
But despite it being thicker than the S25 Ultra, it’s actually lighter as well at 215g compared to 218g.
So when the Z Fold 7 is in the folded position it looks just like a regular smartphone.
Our complaint in the past has been that the front screen has been too narrow for us to complete the tasks we do quite often day-to-day like texting and emailing.

This meant we had to open the device and complete what we were doing with two hands and the device unfolded.
But with the new larger front screen, the Z Fold7 is now large enough for us to comfortably type messages and emails and do a range of other things.
To us, opening that gorgeous 8 -inch Super AMOLED inside display should be a deliberate choice for when we wanted to enjoy our content or run up to three apps at the same time.
It should be a pleasure – not a chore.
But it appears Samsung has been listening to customer feedback and have rectified the problems of the previous models with this remarkable latest edition.
And we think it will become one of the most attractive phones on the market.
Foldable devices have not enjoyed mainstream popularity but after the release of the Z Fold7 and the rumours that Apple will be coming up with a folding iPhone next year, the foldable market is set to explode.
What we also liked about the Z Fold7 is the fact it includes a flagship level camera system which meant there were no compromises for going down the foldable path.
In fact, we would refer to the Z Fold7 as the folding S25 Ultra.
And it’s no slouch performance-wise either thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor which provides superior NPU, GPU and CPU performance.
We look forward to officially putting it through its paces as our daily driver.
It will take a remarkable smartphone to get this one out of our hands.
