DJI unveils the Phantom 4 drone that’s smarter and easier to fly

DJI has unveiled the latest Phantom 4 drone which is packed with new features that make it easier to fly, easier to shoot stunning video and with the intelligence to avoid obstacles and track subjects.

The DJI Phantom 4 has had its biggest redesign and now has a sleek look with a shiny exterior and graphite undercarriage.

Its new shape makes it even more aerodynamic and it can now handle strong winds and gusts from any direction to maintain its flight path.

Also onboard is a new three-axis gimbal to keep the camera stabilised for even smoother shooting.

It also has higher motors so that blades won’t come into frame when you accelerate.

The camera has also been improved with a new lens and the ability to shoot 4K at 30fps and full HD 1080p at 120fps for slow motion.

There are also new flight modes that lets you use satellite and vision positioning and even sport mode for high speed flights at up to 72km/h.

A new TapFly mode allows pilots to simply tap on the live view of your smart device’s screen to send the DJI Phantom 4 flying in that direction.

ActiveTrack recognises a subject and can keep them in the frame automatically without the need for them to wear a tracker or any other kind of GPS bracelet.

It now has an obstacle sensing system so you can fly with more confidence indoors and outdoors.

There’s also a beginner mode that helps new pilots find their feet and prevents them from going too far beyond their skills. You can also adjust the maximum height and distance as your skills improve.

The DJI Phantom 4 will also fly longer as well thanks to a new advanced battery that increase flight time by 25 per cent to 28 minutes on a single charge.

It has a range of up to 5km while still giving the pilot complete control and live 720p HD view.

The DJI Phantom 4 will be available in late March and will be priced at $2,399. Spare batteries are $289 each.
