BritBox announces major upgrade to streaming platform and adds three linear channels

Popular streaming service BritBox has announced a major upgrade of both its platform and its content as it approaches its fifth anniversary since launching in Australia.

BritBox says the evolution of its service will deliver more value and more choices with significantly expanded British content Australians love along with three new exclusive curated linear channels.

That all adds up to hundreds of hours of new content on BritBox with even more premieres added each month and greater access to British comedy and drama than ever before.

These include Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero, Outrageous, Fear and Death Valley plus the latest seasons of popular returning series Shetland and The Bay.

These will join award-winning period drama Call the Midwife and hit detective series Death in Paradise and Silent Witness.

Also returning this year are exclusive series The Cleaner, Professor T and Karen Pirie.

“This exciting new chapter for BritBox Australia features an expanded slate of exclusive UK shows and genre collections advancing our objective to be the best curators of British television, offering our customers more thoughtfully organised collections.

“We’re making it even easier to discover the best of British entertainment united by the same values of quality, authenticity, emotion and depth,” said Moira Hogan, Executive Vice President of International Markets and General Manager of BritBox Australia.

The platform has also been upgraded and redesigned to offer an improved user experience to make it easier to find content,

There are now three new linear channels to give viewers the choice of watching a show on streaming or to view content on demand.

The three channels will be: BBC First, BBC Entertain and BBC Select.

BBC First will include quality drama including some of the UK’s most critically acclaimed series.

This will include new and exclusive dramas Beyond Paradise and The Bay, period pieces such as Call the Midwife and Outrageous as well as Agatha Christie murder mystery, Towards Zero.

On BBC Entertain, viewers will enjoy a mix of comedy, drama and lifestyle content which will include Richard Osman’s House of Games, iconic drama series including Shakespeare & Hathaway along with Doc Martin, and quiz shows and lifestyle titles such as QI and Would I Lie To You? along with the latest seasons of 8 Out of 10 Cats.

BBC Select is your destination for unmissable documentaries with presenters like David Attenborough, Brian Cox and Michael Mosley who will showcase nature, travel, science, adventure, true crime and other amazing human stories.

Viewers will be able to enjoy programmes like Life Below Zero, Frozen Planet and Africa and much more.

“Our customers told us they wanted more — more of the latest series, more quality dramas, comedies and mysteries, as well as more variety across genres,” Hogan added.

“We’ve expanded the service with the aim of continuing to delight our existing fans and appeal to new customers.

“Our team has crafted a user experience that combines the best of on-demand viewing with a curated channel experience.

“So when you’re not sure what to watch, you can easily switch to one of our three streaming channels and the choice is instantly made for you,” said Hogan.

BritBox subscriptions are available for $13.99 per month or $139.99 annually.
