iPhone Xs pre-orders kick off as telcos reveal competitive plans

Preorders for Apple’s brand-new iPhones – the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max – have kicked off while Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone revealed their plans and started taking orders.

Our observations of Apple’s preorder status as well as popularity among the telcos showed it was nowhere the frenzy of last year’s pre-sale of the iPhone X.

Last year, within minutes of pre-orders commencing, the shipping date for the iPhone X had extended out by up to six weeks.

But this time more than an hour after pre-sales for the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, most models and capacities were showing a delivery or pickup date for September 21 – the day the devices go on sale around Australia.

The first devices which became unavailable for pickup on September 21, but still available for delivery on that day, was the iPhone Xs Max 256GB space grey model.

Over at Optus the first models that went out of stock after less than 40 minutes were the iPhone Xs 512GB models in all colours.

At Telstra it was the 512GB silver iPhone Xs that sold out first.

The Vodafone pre-order site for both the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max said that stock was “constrained” as soon as preorders began and that delivery could take one to two weeks after order approval.

Telstra’s best offer was its XL plan which is offering 60GB of data plus a bonus of 30GB for a total of 90GB for $119 plus the cost of the handset.

Meanwhile Optus was offering double data on its $105 plan which included 100GB of data and additional bonus of 100GB for a total of 200GB plus the cost of the handset.

At Vodafone, 20GB of bonus data was being offered on the $60 plan for a total of 60GB and the $80 plan for a total of 100GB. Customers can then choose their interest free phone payment period of up to 36 months.
