Kobo Glo HD e-reader review – highest resolution screen for print-on-paper experience

Kobo has released its latest e-reader – the Glo HD – that offers a sharp print on paper experience and a number of new features to make your reading even more enjoyable.

Due for release on May 1, the Kobo Glo HD has a six-inch Carta E Ink HD touchscreen with the highest resolution screen on the e-reader market at 1448 x 1072 – that’s 300ppi (pixels per inch).

In comparison the Kindle Paperwhite has a resolution of 758 x 1024 at 212ppi.

Type on the Kobo Glo HD’s screen is sharp and clear for comfortable reading.

The Kobo Glo HD is also lighter (180g) than the Kindle Paperwhite (206g) and has more internal memory with 4GB to hold up to 3000 books than the Kindle’s 2GB which can store up to 1000 books.

The device is 15.7cm long, 11.5cm wide and is 9.2mm thick.

Kobo Glo HD has a built-in comfort light so you can read in the dark without disturbing your partner and the brightness can also be adjusted to suit your surroundings.

Under the hood is a 1Ghz processor which means it’s a lot faster so you can turn those pages on that great story even faster.

Readers can easily control their settings to adjust the font style (there are 11 styles), size (there are 48 sizes) and weight plus line spacing and the size of the margins.

On the battery side, the Kobo Glo HD charge can last up to two months based on 30 minutes of reading per day.

There is also wi-fi on board so you can easily browse the Kobo bookstore and download directly to the device in minutes.

You can also use your Kobo account on your computer and sync your purchases wirelessly to the Kobo Glo HD as well.

There are even on-device recommendations so you can discover new books based in what you’ve already read.

There is no microSD card slot so you can’t side load any books that way but you can connect the device to your computer and drag and drop your books to the Glo HD.

The Kobo Glo HD supports up to 15 different ebook file formats including EPUB and ePUB3.

Reading Life is an included feature that allows readers to take notes, highlight passages, make bookmarks and track your reading stats.

If you love reading the Kobo Glo HD offers a great experience at a more affordable price.
