Garmin has announced a GPS first with the promise of free lifetime map updates for its Nuvi 2000 and 3000 ranges of devices. This means for the lifetime of the device there will be no need to pay for any map updates.

The Navteq maps included with the new Garmin GPS devices will always be up to date

Customers would be surprised how much maps can be changed and updated.

But Garmin has gone on the front foot in the competitive GPS market with the promise their users would never be left with old maps if they purchase any of their new devices.

The Nuvi 2000 and 3000 range also includes a new intuitive user interface along with some new features to improve the driving experience including speed limit indicators and 3D terrain.

Garmin is promising free map updates for the lifetime of its range of Nuvi 2000 and 3000 products

The new Guidance 2.0 engine found on the entry level Nuvi 2000 GPS devices include more intuitive destination searches and the ability to see and search for businesses on the map.

Some models will also include voice-activated navigation for safer hands-free operation.

The Nuvi 3000 devices will include Guidance 3.0 which includes all of the features found on Guidance 2.0 along with myTrends which can remember your favourite places and predict your routes without having to enter the address and also provide live traffic information along the way.

Garmin's Nuvi 3450LMT is just 9mm thick - the thinnest personal navigation device (PND) in the world

Another new feature is photoReal junction for photo realistic views of complex intersection and Bird’s Eye junction for aerial views of these same intersections.

The new Garmin Nuvi products will be available in stores from late February.
