Pre-orders of the gargantuan 4K television begin today and it will be sold exclusively through Sony Centres across Australia.

But you’ll need a healthy bank balance to afford the $24,999 Sony 4K TV which costs as much as a car.

The Sony 4K Bravia television is the same size as four 42-inch full high definition screens stacked two by two on top of each other with a resolution of 3840 x 2160.

For those wondering what 4K looks like – you’ve probably seen it already if you’ve ever watched a movie in a digital cinema.

In fact, Sony has been at the forefront of 4K technology and has leveraged its history with 4K broadcast and 4K cinema projection to develop the new 4K television.

The Sony 4K television is equipped with the 4K X-Reality Pro picture engine and a 4K LCD panel which is made up of more than eight million pixels.

Another feature of the X-Reality Pro picture engine is its ability to upscale HD footage from broadcasts and Blu-ray Disc to 4K quality.

The Sony 84-inch 4K Bravia also offers a full high definition 3D experience while wearing ultra light passive 3D glasses – the same lightweight glasses worn when watching 3D films in cinemas.
