3D is huge at the movies at the moment – but what about enjoying 3D in dedicated home cinemas?

While we’ve seen plenty of 3D LED and plasma televisions there are now 3D projectors to enjoy a big screen 3D experience at home.

This week Sony introduced the VPL-HW30ES projector which is three times brighter than previous models and capable of 3D projection.

It incorporates the latest lamp technology which, with the addition of 3D active shutter glasses and a 3D transmitter, allows movies, sport and gaming come to life.

High end home theatre enthusiasts will be impressed by the picture quality the Sony VPL-HW30ES which offers 70,000:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 1300 Lumens.

Sony's new active shutter 3D glasses weigh just 59g

Sony’s new 3D active glasses are also 18g lighter at 59g – down from 77g and can be charged in 30 minutes for 30 hours of use.

And the projector is whisper quiet at just 22 decibels thanks to an advanced air discharge system for more efficient cooling.

But one of the best features about the Sony VPL-HW30ES projector is the price – $5,999.

A full high definition projector of this quality would have been priced at well over $10,000 as little as two years ago.

This price with the 3D capability built-in makes it worth consideration for anyone putting together a dedicated home theatre or thinking of upgrading their old projector.

The VPL-HW30ES will available in August.

The Sony VPL-VW90ES is priced at $5999 and is avaiable from August
