Alcatel 1C smartphone review – one of the best value devices money can buy

When you consider the design, the display, the features and the price, you will quickly discover that pound for pound the Alcatel 1C is one of the best value smartphones money can buy.

Alcatel has a regular habit of showing just how much value it offers with its smartphones. The latest example is the Alcatel 1C which has a 5.34-inch 18:9 screen which is priced at less than $100.

And were not talking about a cheap and nasty looking product.

The Alcatel 1C has a premium look and feel that customers would think costs hundreds of dollars more when they get their hands on it.

Which makes the fact that it only costs $89 even more astounding.

There are iPhone and Samsung cases that cost more than that.

The Alcatel 1C, available in black or gold, has a brushed metal look to the rear panel with either a white front face with the gold edition or entirely black.

Despite costing less than $100, the Alcatel 1C is still a pretty sleek looking device. It has a nice build quality and an impressive finish.

Even at this price, customers still get an impressive 18:9 display – a feature normally reserved for smartphones the cost a lot more than this one.

On the rear panel is a fingerprint reader – an amazing inclusion for an $89 phone – and a 8-megapixel camera with flash.

On the front, there is a 5-megapixel front facing camera, also with a flash.

The Alcatel 1C is a 3G phone that is running Android 7.0 Nougat and has everything Google has to offer with the Google Play Store for all your favourite apps and there’s even Google Assistant on board so you can talk to the device to find information and directions and access and control your home’s smart devices.

Under the hood there is a quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable through the microSD card slot.

There is also a 3.5mm jack for those who still like plugging in their earphones to listen to their music or podcasts.

The 18:9 display has a 960 x 480 resolution and is capable of displaying more than 16 million colours.

It doesn’t have the same brightness and clarity as the flagship devices but is still impressive nonetheless.

On the performance side, the Alcatel 1C also delivers and can switch between apps really quickly.

The fingerprint reader on the rear panel is also pretty fast as well. There was only a couple of times when it didn’t react and we had to type in our passcode but otherwise we had no complaints.

The rear camera also punches above its weight and captures above-average images with accurate colours and detail.

No, the camera is not in the league of what you get with the smartphones you will pay more than $1000 for, but it is still a capable shooter that can help you capture those memories on the spot.

What impressed us was the battery life which, when we used it as our daily drive, easily got us through our entire day.

The battery has a capacity of 2,640mAh, which is smaller than other devices, but the Alcatel 1C had amazing staying power.

Now it wouldn’t make any sense to compare this product to an iPhone or any other flagship device.

It would be like comparing a Hyundai to a Rolls-Royce. But that Hyundai by can still get you around town and basically do the same thing the Rolls-Royce can do but it costs you far less.

It’s the same thing for the Alcatel 1C.

For those who want to spend more money there are plenty of smartphones to choose from.

But the Alcatel 1C is a perfect choice for a parent looking to gift their child their first device or for anyone else, no matter what age, looking to buy their first smartphone.

It might only cost $89 but it certainly provides a satisfying experience.

The Alcatel 1C is available now through Telstra stores. It is locked to the Telstra network but can be unlocked for a small fee.
