Timex launches smartwatch with standalone connectivity

timexwatch2Well-known watchmaker Timex has entered the smartwatch market but with one major difference – the device connects to the internet without a smartphone.

The Timex Ironman One GPS+ offers standalone connectivity which means you can leave your phone behind.

The smartwatch brings with it 160 years of Timex heritage and has a built-in SIM card thanks to a partnership in the US with carrier AT&T.

Users will be able to send and receive emails and view other notifications on their wrist.

That connectivity will also provide tracking capabilities to communicate the user’s location to family friends.

Also onboard is a “Find Me Mode” – a safety solution that allows the user to transmit their exact location in the event of an emergency.

There is even a built-in MP3 player with 4GB of internal memory to play music wirelessly through Bluetooth headphones.

The Timex Ironman One GPS+ will be available to purchase in the coming months from timex.com and AT&T stores in the use. It will be priced at $US399.95.
